Susanne Schmidt grew up in Germany, but has been lucky enough to never encounter any of the monsters she describes in her stories. 

She studied in Spain and the US and earned a B.A. in Journalism from Saint Louis University. Her short story "Gray Geese" appeared in Toad Shade Zine. Her book Bad Grains was named a finalist in the 2024 BBNYAs and 2023 SFINCS competitions and shortlisted in the 2025 I Am Writing Middle-Grade Competition. 

Susanne is currently working on two dark fantasy series for adults, as well as the next installment of The Order of the Strawberry Circle series. 

When she isn't writing, she's probably in the garden, growing pumpkins, strawberries, and dandelions.
