Karen Carnahan
Welcome to Karen’s Page!
Karen Carnahan was born in February 1967 in Wurzburg, Germany, to American parents. While attending school, she found a love for writing and reading authors such as V. C. Andrews and Terry Brooks.
In 1985, Karen joined the U.S. Navy, traveled to many places, and experienced how people live, which gave her a sense of adventure. While out at sea, she stocked up on authors, including R. A. Salvatore, J. K. Rowling, Christopher Paolini, John Flanagan, Stephenie Meyer, Richelle Mead, Cassandra Clare, Suzanne Collins, and Adrienne Woods. Karen remains an avid reader.
Karen wrote poetry in 2004, building a foundation with publications in the Fayetteville Observer Newspaper, Labour’s of Love (Noble House Publishers), and Eternal Portraits (International Library of Poetry). She received The Best Poems and Poets 2004 (International Library of Poetry) and Whispers (American Poet Society). Her poetry earned her the Editor’s Choice Award in both 2004 and 2005 (International Library of Poetry).
In 2008, Karen sent a manuscript to Harlequin, which returned with a set of requirements that fueled the fire. She redid her story and was editing it when her computer’s hard drive became corrupted. It infected all four backup copies. Depressed, she stepped away from writing.
The itch to write again, ignited in 2019, led Cliff, her husband, to suggest she pursue her dream. Karen enrolled in the Open University, the UK’s largest public research university for undergraduate education.
Afterwards, Karen published Dragon Fusion in 2021. She pulled the book, had it re-edited several times, to find out she was spinning her wheels. Something else had to happen...
Decision made, Karen enrolled in Southern New Hampshire University as a Creative Writer and English major focusing on Fiction. She wanted her readers to have the best stories possible. Not waiting until graduation to start, she self-published YA Fantasy Shorts, A Ranger - Solsticeborn, and Legacy of the Seven White Towers.
Karen lives with her husband, Cliff, her granddaughter, Rosalee, and Spunky, their Chihuahua/Jack Russell, in the Blue Ridge Mountains, one of the four provinces of the Appalachian Mountains system in West Virginia.
The cooler months of fall and winter give Karen plenty of time to work on her hobbies of cooking, baking, crocheting, sewing, and reading.
Thank you for coming.
