About the author

Alfonso Vientos Bonilla

Alfonso V. Bonilla, is a 26-year veteran with the New York City Department of Corrections. He served as an intelligence and apprehension unit supervisor investigating homicides and suicides.

His collaboration with the outside agencies led to the formulation of methods of apprehension of escaped prisoners and nullifying inmate murder conspiracies.

His last 10 years as a captain in the NY State Supreme Court further enriched his experience in a world little known by outsiders.

He believes the courts' back-room holding pens are a place of reconciliation, and teenagers should be exposed to the inner workings of the court system.

With the help of court officials and the District Attorney's Office, he arranges court tours for at-risk teens.

He also serves as an ambassador for Crossroads Prison Ministry in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
