Sips & Strokes (Unlikely Pairings Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.1 4.1 out of 5 stars 282 ratings

Love wasn't part of the deal.

Lily Maldonado is screwed. The people-pleasing art professor has been roped into attending her ex’s wedding by her overbearing, image-obsessed parents. Even worse? The woman her ex is marrying is Lily's childhood bully. She can’t back out, but she’s not sure she can face this nightmare solo.

Enter Calder Ross. The sexy Scot’s abs have graced the cover of many romance novel bestsellers, but the reformed playboy needs a more serious image if he wants to land his dream job as the spokesman for Sonce Whisky. Modeling for Lily’s figure drawing class is step one in the right direction.

After their very adorable—and very naked—meet-cute, Lily and Calder realize that they can be each other’s saving grace. Lily can bring Calder to the wedding as her fake boyfriend to ward off pitying stares. Calder can bring Lily to Sonce events as his fake girlfriend to show he’s the responsible, relationship-minded guy that execs want as the face of their brand. But the longer Lily and Calder play pretend, the harder it becomes to deny the very real chemistry between them. Will they play it safe and stick to their fake roles? Or will they throw out the playbook completely and risk it all for love? Buy now and find out!

I would highly recommend this book if you love art, slow burn, and happy endings!
To write a book is a feat, to write a book with another person is even more difficult! These two authors, whom I have read separately, put together a great book in Sips & Strokes!I really enjoyed the multiple POV and the storyline. Fake relationships are a great troupe and Skye and Sarah do GREAT with the concept and overall ending too! The steamy scenes are hot and spicy, while the character development is just as great to read.I would highly recommend this book if you love art, slow burn, and happy endings!*I was given this book to read and review prior to publication.

I loved everything about this book. The characters were so awesome and so fun, the story had sweet and sexy all over it. I was rooting for them the entire time, who doesn't love a hot Scot that starts off posing nude in art class? There's whiskey and s'mores and so much to love.

Fake dating is one of my favorite romance tropes, and this novel is a fun one. The premise--an underwear model, who is subbing as the nude model in an art class, needs to appear in a relationship to be portrayed as more family-friendly to land his dream job while the art professor needs a boyfriend to take to her ex's wedding events--was new and novel to me.

You can tell that they are good for each other. I like how supportive Calder is and how he understands Lily. I like how Lily's confidence grows in the book. Lily is able to help Calder reevaluate how he sees himself. He sees himself as a model while she sees him as an artist.

Their relationship gets steamy early on for a fake dating novel; this one is not a slow burn. It is open door.

The novel is dual POV, so you get insights into what both Lily and Calder are thinking. I'm a sucker for a romance novel where the male main character realizes he is falling in love before the female main character realizes the depths of her feelings.

There are some things with Lily's family dynamic that I don't love, but I understand how they are plot devices to rope her into all of the wedding festivities for her ex.

    Key Features:
    -Fake Dating Trope
    -Dual POV
-POC/AAPI main character (Her father is from Iowa; her mother is from the Philippines.)

🎉I was literally counting down to when this gem dropped on my Kindle! As soon as it did, you best believe I abandoned everything I had been doing to curl up and read!

🤔 If you're looking for your next read, let me tell you why "Sips and Strokes" is the one for you:
    ✅ Fun Banter
    ✅ Steam Level: 🥵🔥🥵🔥
    ✅ Fake Dating Trope
✅ Asian Representation with focus on the Female Lead and centers on her family dynamic that really hits close to home for a lot of us in the AAPI community. 🇵🇭🙌🏻
✅ A Scotsman with a Kilt who also moonlights as a Romance Novel Cover Model.

I loved this book! It was funny and sweet, as well as steamy! Lily and Calder were both interesting characters and I loved them together. It was refreshing that Calder was so encouraging and truly valued Lily. I always enjoy the fake dating trope and this one was no exception.

Sips and Strokes is about two people in need of a fake partner to either survive an ex’s wedding (Lily) or a spokesperson job of a lifetime (Calder). Lily is a woman who has trouble speaking up or standing up for herself. She is being bullied into all the events leading up to her ex’s wedding by her mother who believes society has rules that must be followed. She cares little of her daughter’s feelings and knows what sweet endearment words to use to get her way. Calder is a model who has risen to fame as a scantily clad cover model and underwear model. He is comfortable in his body and nudity is not a problem but now he wants more. To get his dream job he needs to tone down his lifestyle and his choice in modeling gigs if he wants to become the spokesperson for his favorite Whisky from his homeland, Scotland.
In reading this I felt Calder’s character was more fleshed out. I could see him, understand him and even relate to him. Lilly felt underdeveloped, I couldn’t see her or understand her. She kept me as confused as she kept Calder. Meekness I could deal with but her constant jumping to conclusions and over thinking things became tiresome. She was bullied by Harmony when they were kids and now Harmony is marrying her ex but she didn’t cause the break up and I didn’t get the vibe she was trying to be mean to Lilly. The awful breakup with her ex was over artwork she made that he sold and set up a retirement fund for her. When Calder and Lilly go to meet his friend Nate (who is trying to help him get the job at his company) and the company heads she is cold, aloof, barely speaking, giving no hint that they are really a couple which his friend Nate notices. Of course things work out on many fronts and there is the HEA and all is well.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Super fun steamy romance - the stuff dreams are made of. First, we've got a hot Scot that's an Instagram model sensation. Then we have a sweet art professor with serious family baggage. There's classroom nudity that makes for delicious tension. They both need a fake relationship, which forces proximity and their ultimate fall.

This book is like a contemporary fairytale, not with a white knight who swoops in and makes everything better, but with a man who helps our princess use her voice to save herself.

Sometimes you find exactly what you want to read and this cute & sexy story was exactly that for me. I love how Lily and Calder met and everything that follows. There professions, an art teacher and a sexy Scottish model, was not your average romance novel couple. I loved the fake romance and learning about whiskey too!!! I have to try banana s’mores!!! I fell so hard for Calder and rooted Lily on all the way! I definitely recommend this steamy romance and can’t wait to read more!

Sips & Strokes is the first novel I've read since being in a six month reading rut. This book was so refreshing and the perfect escapist antidote to all the negative things going on in the world right now. Lily and Calder are perfect for each other, and the story is flawless with the right amount of conflict for my taste. I'm very excited to see future releases from Sarah Skye.

This is a great fun hot romcom. There's enough angst for conflict and tension, it's funny and spicy. Nice. Loved it!
