The Broken Doll
I am this way
Because you made me.
You trained me
to dance
when you pull my strings
that you used
to control me.
I am this way
Because I’m your doll
Moving only with your permission
Painted smile
Dead eyes that still
somehow
Look alive.
I am this way
Because you lied to me.
Manipulated me.
Controlled me.
Because you’ll never understand what it’s like
to relive what you did
Every day.
I am this way
Because you broke me.
Shrinking
Smaller.
Smaller!
Can they still see you?
Have you contorted yourself
to hide behind whatever you can?
Twisted your mind to convince yourself
You’re the problem?
Have you hidden your emotions
in a wooden cabinet
padlocked it shut
and thrown away the key?
Can you make yourself any smaller
so they don’t know you’re still there?
If They can’t see you,
They can’t hurt you.
