The Angel of Torin Woods: A Scottish Fantasy Romance (Betwixt the Sea and Shore) Kindle Edition
What happens when the most magical part of the Fairy Realm is the girl you accidentally trapped there with you?
The day Vincent McLaren glimpsed an extraordinary creature in Torin Woods was the day his brother lost all faith in him. Since then, he’s tried to convince Tam of the truth countless times and done everything he could to make amends. Everything, except the one thing he’s terrified of: returning to the forest to find proof.
But when his father forces him to go collect firewood, a chance encounter with an enchanting singer makes him more certain than ever of the forest’s magic. His brother doesn’t believe him, but he says he’ll give Vincent a chance to earn his trust again—if he captures the singer, so Tam can see it for himself.
Bethany Fairborn knows better than to trust the humans in her village. Her bitter mother made sure she learned that at an early age. Her days are focused on following in her family’s footsteps to become Everton’s next midwife, and she only uses her magic when she’s alone—until the annoying fisherman’s son invades her refuge.
When Vincent takes Tam up on his offer, Bethany makes the impulsive decision to join him on the hunt, figuring he’ll give up after a few hours. She didn’t expect they’d wind up trapped in the Fairy Realm—or that she’d start wishing Vincent could become more than a friend.
To get home, they’ll have to trust each other, but if Bethany reveals her secret, Vincent may become a bigger threat than anything they’ll find in the Fairy Realm.

- Reviewed in the United States on September 25, 2024This was an enticing mix of Scottish folklore, fairytale, and historical romance! All clean and full of mystery and life! I loved reading this book and will definitely look for more by this author!

- Reviewed in the United States on November 15, 2024I absolutely loved this book!! It is a perfect introduction into this world of mystery and mayhem. I loved the Mad Fisherman and am very intrigued as to how this series will continue. I plan to purchase the rest of the series very soon.
(I received an ARC and wrote this review of my own volition.)
- Reviewed in the United States on October 14, 2024Once again Claire had me from the very minute I cracked the spine of this book.
Even though this is just a short prequel novella of the Betwixt the Sea and Shore series I rate it number 2 of my favorites of the 4 releases.
Claire quickly immerses us back into the world of Scottish folklore and I am here for it all.
I had been curious to learn more about Bethany from our brief introduction in Drulea Cottage. Never did I imagine the romance with Sweet Vincent The Mad Fisherman (nice to finally learn where that nickname came from as well) that played out.
I love all the new creatures we were introduced to and the mention of The fairy rings had me as I am obsessed with the mushroom rings in my own yard and often wish to step inside and be whisked away to Torin Woods myself.
Once again do yourself a favor and pick up this newest read from phenomenal author Claire Kohler.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 5, 2024This sweet and whimsical Scottish folklore fairytale prequel novella to the Betwixt the Sea and Shore series, was such a fun and bittersweet read!
Vincent McLaren will do anything to make amends with his brother Tam, and to prove to him that magical creatures do lurk in the forest of Torin Woods. Vincent hears a melodic voice singing in the woods when sent to gather firewood, and sets out on a mission-he must find this angel hiding in Torin Woods and bring the singing angel to his brother Tam. When the quiet midwife’s daughter, Bethany Fairborn, offers to help Vincent find the angel in the woods, the two set off on an adventure that unearths much more than they bargained for-a portal to the fairy realm, a trow, a tree guardian, secrets, and a blossoming love that will change the course of their lives forever.
I absolutely loved this sweet and short novella that took me back into the town of Everton and the fairy realm! I highly recommend this lovely start to a fantastic series.

- Reviewed in the United States on September 21, 2024I am such a fan of Claire Kohler's books, so I was very excited when I learned she was writing a prequel novella to her Betwixt the Sea and Shore series. The Angel of Torin Woods is a quick, immersive read that revolves around Vincent (The Mad Fisherman from the series) and young Bethany (who is a selkie). It was a fun treat getting to meet these characters in their youth, and the budding romance between them was sweet and had me leaning into the story. I loved the Fae Realm aspect, and the two creatures Vincent and Bethany meet there. I would have liked to see things slow down a bit during that sequence, as the story jumps forward 2 weeks at that part, and I really wanted to "see" their romantic feelings grow during that window of time more. Overall, this was an enjoyable read, and a wonderful prequel to the series. I highly recommend this book, and every book in this series, to anyone who loves Scottish historical settings, selkie folklore, fae, magic, and cozy fantasy romance. Excited to read the next book from this author!

Eeek, guys!!! I loved this one so much! 😍🥰 It was so good, and the whole vibe of it...ahhh!!!! 😍💖
The characters were well-written, and I loved them all so much. 😌🥰 The relationships were so great, and the romance was so appropriate with the whole ages aspect. ☺️ (No spoilers here, but it's a plot point. 😉)
I loved all of the fairy-ish aspects so very much, and...well, everything. Just know that, from now on, every Claire Kohler book is mine. 😌😍🤭
CWs: Younger children may be upset with one of the scenes where something dear to our MFC is destroyed. One place mentions how a girl looked, filled out in certain areas since she grew. One girl is supposed to be born out of wedlock, though whether that is true or not is a bit vague. People assume she will follow her mother's path, though we clearly see that that is false.

(Thanks so much to the author for the ARC! 😊 All thoughts are my own, and I was not obligated in anyway to say it. 😉)
- Reviewed in the United States on September 28, 2024This was a short easy read. This was a prequel to a series I haven't read yet but it was easy to follow. The writer did a great job making you feel immersed in the lore.
