"Promise Me This brims with beautiful emotion and depth... This is a poignant story that will stay with you long after it's done." -Jessica Joyce, USA Today Bestselling author of You, With a View

Forever wasn’t supposed to look like this.

When Leona Granger studied abroad in Ireland, she spent a lot more time falling in love with Callum Walsh than she did in the classroom. On the eve of her return to the States, she promised to come back for him when she finished college. They said goodbye under the stars, sealing their promise with more than just a kiss.

Callum has spent the last twelve years trying not to wonder why Leona, and everyone else for that matter, finds it so easy to leave him behind. Now a single father, all he wants is to give his beautiful daughter the best life he can. Nothing, not even Leona showing up after a decade of radio silence, will get in the way of that.

But Leona had her reasons for not returning. When the just-good-enough life she built in the wake of losing the baby she never told Callum about falls apart, she realizes it’s time to come clean. It might be too late to keep her promise to Callum, but for the child they lost, she has to try.

Faced with feelings they long thought buried, Callum and Leona have to decide if it’s worth exposing all their hidden scars for a second chance at the promise of forever with the one that never should’ve gotten away.

Full of heart and angst!
Wow, what an emotional ride! Hannah Bird has a really unique ability to be having me cry one minute and laughing the next. This book had so many ups and downs, the story was definitely not a straight path to the end. We rode the winding journey with the MCs and what a journey it was 😭😭😭Big Spoilers ahead! My heart was just so sad for them both throughout the entire story. Like how do you even process all of the things they went through?? With Leo being a 20 year old pregnant college kid, like I am not annoyed at her for not telling him. That would be terrifying and you’re so young and don’t know how to adult yet. The shock and tragedy and grief is all something that would be extraordinarily difficult for a 30 something to process, let alone a 20 year old.Normally in contemporary romance, we get a brief backstory for the characters and dive into the fun of falling in love. This is not that kind of story. Her/their entire story was excruciating. Because the conflict is so massive and heavy and emotional, it made sense to work through the confusion of how to process the grief with her/them because it’s true grief from loss, not just a past heartbreak. That made me view the slower romantic buildup with a different perspective than I normally would. I’m glad for all the time we spent inside their heads ahead of them giving their relationship a go again, before their big confrontation and the reveal. It made the semi-fallout more understandable, relatable and I was feeling those emotions right there with them because I was so in tune with their thought process by that point. Hannah did a great job bringing us into the characters minds and hearts, not writing a story that you’re observing- you’re right there in it with them. You’re hurting with them, laughing with them, crying with them, getting angry with them.Switching gears a bit…The characters were each lovely. I love that we didn’t have like a true villain (aside from Catherine who wasn’t on page at all) and just let the story shine. There wasn’t drama for drama’s sake. The conflicts that happened were all believable and raw and just so dang painful.Siobhan is the best mother/mother figure/MIL I’ve read in a book. There have been some pretty great ones that I’ve encountered in various romance books but she was absolute perfection. The moment between Leo and Siobhan after Callum gets the full story where she’s just rocking Leo, being there for her despite knowing her son is hurting too… my heart was squeezed so tight. I hope everyone who has been through this kind of grief has a Siobhan to love on them through their pain.Special love to and for the girls I read with, specifically E. This was a painful read in general but I know it is gut wrenching for those who know this specific kind of loss 💕Thank you, Hannah, for the ARC! As usual, you broke my heart and glued it back together. Two quotes that had me sobbing:“Turning thirty didn’t scare me the way it did for so many of my acquaintances. Like every birthday before it, I ushered in the day with a peace settled around my heart, knowing I was one day closer to seeing my baby again.”“Your life was painfully brief. I can’t bear for your memory to be also.”

This second chance and soulmates story was so good. Leo and Callum were amazing. Their story was so beautiful and heartbreaking at the same time.
We all handle loss and grief differently. Leo’s journey was and felt so real. She made some choices, wrong or not they had a made an impact. On her and Callum.
It takes a long time for Callum and Leo to rekindle their relationship and it was the right thing for the story and for what they both had experienced. So I enjoyed the slow burn and them taking their time. I got to fall in love with them when they first met and again twelve years later.
The side characters were amazing. I mean Callum’s daughter, mother and best friend were incredible and important to the story.
    Glad I read this book.

Oooooh boy, there is nothing like a Hannah Bird finish. This is my second HB Book and I’m beginning to realize that I need to allot for healing time after each read. Lol. Tears just keep dropping, but with each one my smile lifts more. What a beautiful love story, in an even more beautiful setting, written by the MOST BEAUTIFUL characters…because that is how it felt while grubbing this one, like this romance was written by Callum and Leo, and even Poppy.

If you like emotional-relatable-slow burns, read “The Cost of Forgetting You” and “Promise Me This”. I recommend Buddy-Reading. You will want to talk about them! Trust me!!

    Promise me this
    By Hannah Bird

After reading one review of this book, I immediately downloaded it. Second-chance romance is probably my favorite trope. There is just something that gets to me about two people finding their way back to each other. I was not prepared for how much this book would affect me emotionally. I think I shed my first tear at 5% in. This book takes you on an emotional journey with many ups and downs but I couldn’t put it down.

Leona and Callum fell in love one summer in Ireland while Leona was studying abroad and Callum was working for his uncle’s shipping company. They were young and in love and spent every moment they could together. They parted ways promising to continue their relationship with hopes of a future together in Ireland.

After a few months home, Leona learned she was pregnant. Before she could share the news with Callum she was told her child would be terminal. Instead of reaching out to him, she wallowed in her grief and detached herself from all of her loved ones.

Now, it is 12 years later and Callum is a single dad raising his daughter along with some help from his Mam and his best bud. Leona shows up at his door hoping for some closure but the last person he wants to see is her. Seems that everyone whom Callum has loved has betrayed him and he can't relive that pain again.

Leona decides to stay in Ireland and she and Callum slowly start to figure each other out, and if they have a place in each other’s life.
While reading this book you can feel the grief that Leona experiences on every page. She is living with it and starts to take over every fiber of her being. Callum takes his time with her not knowing what is causing the grief but knowing he wants to heal her. I think anyone who has suffered pain or loss in some way can resonate with what each of these characters go through. By the end, I was a full-on crying mess! But it is a wonderful story that makes you want to take a trip to Ireland, rent a room at the Inn, have a brew at the pub, and have a cup of tea watching the poppies bloom.
This one gets all the stars.

Hannah Bird does it again! I swear, every one of her books has been impossible to put down and tears my heart in two (then puts it back together all nice).

I don’t know how she does it, but Hannah somehow manages to perfectly capture emotions in her books. Leo and Callum’s story is no different. The complexity of Leo’s immense grief is so perfectly portrayed through Hannah’s writing, and the letters to Poppy were an incredible addition to help express it. I personally have never experienced Leo’s kind of loss, but I felt as if I could feel every little thing she was feeling and gained a huge insight into this kind of loss.

You also can’t beat a single dad storyline. Callum was so swoon worthy and relatable, and Hannah did such a phenomenal job showing his side of several situations of immense loss. Niamh was a delight, and Siobhan is the mother I’d kill to have!

Lastly, IRELAND?! I need a ticket ASAP. I did my best attempt at Irish accents in my head, and I was loving it! I’d kill to see some of the places in this book that meant so much to the characters!

Thanks so much to Hannah for letting me ARC read Promise Me This! She is an auto-buy author for me. Not only is she an incredible writer, but also such a kind soul! If you love a good romance and lots of emotions, this book is for you!

Oh Hannah! Yet another book that left me in an emotionally wrecked state. The tears were openly shed as I read this beautiful book, and more than once I was asked if I was okay by my husband... but I will forever state that reading ANYTHING by Hannah is beyond worth it.

Ireland is the setting for this masterpiece and it was the absolute perfect setting. The characters, the history, the present, and the depth was wonderful. Hannah writes like a poet - her words twist and turn and make up the most heart warming reality, and you truly feel every single emotion on page. She has a true gift as an author, and I absolutely love her work.

Check your TW for this one as it does deal with some very complex topics.

This story deals with a topic that’s close to my heart and Hannah handles it so beautifully in her writing.
It was such an emotional and moving story and I loved to see Leo’s strength. I adored the Irish small town setting, the fun side characters, and the relationship growth between Leo and Callum. Callum’s relationship with his little girl was also so beautiful to see. I had a hard time putting this book down and it’s got me dreaming of a trip to Ireland. This was such a heartbreaking and beautiful story, and I highly recommend picking up Hannah’s books if you haven’t already.
