      I like animal-headed gods better when they aren’t waking me up at night to do their bidding.

      Honestly, it can be kind of fun to go out jogging and see a guy with an elephant’s tail and an alligator head standing at the corner in a business suit, waiting for the light to change. Or maybe a girl with a cat’s head wearing a tank top and low-rider jeans, ahead of me in line at Starbucks. Makes for a break from the humdrum of daily life.

      Nobody else notices them, so far as I can tell. Either there’s been a silent conspiracy to not acknowledge the presence of these folks among our modern society, or I’m the only one who can see that they’re anything more than perfectly ordinary human beings, going about their perfectly ordinary lives.

      Then again, maybe everyone else sees them and nobody says anything for the same reason I keep my fool mouth shut – who the hell would believe us?

      We’d end up with our own support group or something, maybe between the meeting rooms of the alien abductees and those folks who drink blood to feel more like vampires.
