This was what hell must feel like.
Mark Crenshaw was pretty sure, anyhow.
He sat in his still-running Camry, blessing the AC as he stared across fifty yards of shimmering black pavement toward Food World, the local food megamart, wondering if having food to eat could possibly be worth it.
They had handicapped parking spots closer to the entrance. Why couldn’t they have sunburn-prone parking spots?
The noon sun blazed down from a cloudless sky, cooking the burg of Decatur, Georgia, like a Thanksgiving turkey. The bank sign across the way informed all and sundry that the temp was at a breezy ninety-seven.
Longest day of the year, he kept telling his red-headed self. Survive today, and things start getting safer for the flammable
