AEGIS: The Rift: The Aegis Series (An Action/Adventure Contemporary Fantasy Saga), Book 2 Kindle Edition

4.5 4.5 out of 5 stars 22 ratings

BEHIND THE VEIL OF THIS WORLD, BATTLE LINES ARE BEING DRAWN

The fate of the world rests upon the slender shoulders of a young teenager named Graham Dawson, who harbors the prophesied power capable of tipping the delicate balance between good and evil. Silas’ attempt to take Graham at Catalyst Grove has failed, but he did not leave empty-handed.

In finding the grove, he destroyed over half of the AEGIS training facilities around the world and unearthed the hidden locations of key AEGIS outposts. This revelation lays bare the vulnerability of Alex’s entire network and exposes his people to the impending onslaught by VICTUS. With the outposts now compromised, Graham now finds himself thrust into an epic battle where he must train to become useful on the battlefield before uniting with other AEGIS warriors and deploying on tactical missions to defend their three remaining outposts. The stakes couldn't be higher; if Victus seizes the Aegis outposts, they will mercilessly exterminate the Aegis people, gain control of their powerful networks, and use Graham to usher in an era of darkness.

New alliances will form. New powers will be revealed, and the battle will rage as the inevitable collision of the two immortals grows ever nearer. The beginning of the end has come.

"AEGIS: The Rift" is an enthralling coming-of-age tale that weaves together elements of fantasy, adventure, and magic realism. Graham's journey from an ordinary orphan to an unexpected hero sets the stage for an epic battle between light and dark, promising an unforgettable adventure where destiny and power intersect in truly extraordinary ways.

Interview with the Author

Q - What makes the AEGIS Series so unique?
I am a huge fan of epic adventures. I loved The Chronicles of Narnia and Lord Of The Rings and always acted out fight scenes in my head as a child. I thrive on the stories of the classic clash of good vs. evil. I also appreciate clean stories that don't rely on rash language and questionable intimate scenes. Great stories don't need those. A solid plot, relatable characters, hard decisions, strong moral fiber, and nail-biting action carry a series to greatness. We all want themes that stick with us long after we are finished reading, ones that make us think deeply. Yeah, that is what sets this apart... and, of course, I have developed the story to keep you turning the pages in anticipation. You may hate me for making you stay up all night to finish!

Q - What books are in the series?
Another unique aspect of the AEGIS series is the Character Stories. These are novelettes based on each main character in the series to give you a glimpse into the extraordinary circumstances that shaped them into who they are today. These novelettes can be read in any order, but I suggest reading Catalyst Grove before diving in. Here is what is out so far:

NOVEL SERIES
  1. AEGIS: Catalyst Grove
  2. AEGIS: The Rift
  3. AEGIS: The Frozen Throne (in process)
  4. +1 more planned

CHARACTER NOVELETTES
  1. Recollection: Graham Dawson
  2. Mission Alpha: Eric Branson
  3. + many more to come!

Q - So, why should readers give these books a try?
Readers will likely enjoy the book if they enjoy: - Adventurous storylines - Epic battles - Clean reading - Strong, relatable characters - An urge to wage war against the forces of darkness - Deep, meaningful moral undertones - Mystery - Special Powers (superhero/superpowers you ask? I guess you will have to read and see :) )

Enjoy!

My fourth read from author Nathen Roten. With every word written Roten has grown on me, in fact, I had an ARC of this book but I went out & bought it I liked him so much. Captivating story line, memorable characters, who could ask for anything more, well maybe some more time so I could read more.

I have to say, I loved every minute of this book! Nathan Roten has once again drawn me fully into his world and expanded it in new and fascinating ways. This is a must read for anyone looking to escape from the everyday and ordinary for a little while. I'm looking forward to seeing where this series goes from here.

Was not as impressed with the second book. Aside from the main characters, there were too many other characters who were never introduced into the story. After reading a couple of chapters and still not finding out who the heck these people were. I gave up, which is a shame, because I thought the the first book was fantastic, the plot was excellent, caracters well thought out and lots of interesting action.

Great read. Going to keep up with this series. The second time through was even better than the first.

When I read Catalyst Grove I thought it was an amazing book. The depth and development of the characters and the story ranked right up there with my favorite author of all time, Leon Uris. I waited, rather impatiently, for the second book. The Rift did not disappoint! It's better than Catalyst Grove. The characters grow with the story, rather than one or the other being left behind as you see in a lot of sequels. They, the characters, continue to develop on each page. Their strengths become much more refined and the "otherside" is fleshed out. (I am intentionally vague as I don't do spoiler reviews. I want the reader to enjoy the book without my thoughts entering into the equation. ) Rarely do I find myself wanting to read a series more than once, but AEGIS is definitely falling into that category.

Graham and Damian from Greenwood Orphanage, after their ordeal at Catalyst Grove, became real firm friends with Kel and Ailey from Oakridge Orphanage. The good news is they are becoming real live family as Alex, the leader of the Aegis group, is in process of adopting them. These kids could not be more thrilled.
Each having demonstrated that they have a talent, it has now become time for them to start training. Training..training...training until they do not even want to hear that word! Besides, to their horror they discovered they really are but novices in each of the talents. There are many rankings higher up to aspire to. But for now, they have to train.
Did I mention they have a lot of training to do?
Just as well, because the new name in terror is called Victus. They are the group that attacked the Catalyst Grove training facility. Other facilities soon follows and Raven facility, eventually only has one survivor.
Silas and Kyla from Victus have only two objectives: 1. Capture Graham Dawson
    2. Rub out any surviving member of the Aegis group.
Nathan Roten once again succeeds in writing a thrilling action packed YA fantasy that will have you gasping for more at the end of this book, The Rift. Enjoy!
