About the author

I've made up stories in my head for as long as I can remember - I put myself to sleep at night when I was young by rewriting the plots and endings of books I'd read. I assumed this was normal and everyone else did it, too, until I began getting weird looks when I talked about it. Finally, when I was twelve, I figured it out and decided I'd be a writer when I grew up.
I got sidetracked by my love of animals and the need for a 'real' job, so I became a veterinarian instead. Twenty-five years ago, when I realized I was making up stories about my clients and their pets, I decided to try putting them down on paper.
The result? After writing thirty books for Harlequin and selling millions of copies of them, I'm now writing The Donovan Family series, romantic suspense novels about a family of Chicago cops.
I consider myself the luckiest person in the world to be involved in two careers that I love. But more important than either career is my family - my husband and my three daughters. We live in a Chicago suburb with a menagerie of pets.

- Reviewed in the United States on June 10, 2018A standalone read with a HEA. It is a cowboy romance. He loves the rodeo and all it encompasses. They are teens when he leaves town for months at a time following the rodeo. She wants him to stay home. A problem to be sure. The breaking point comes when he lets her know he will be gone for 4 more months and she is desperate to get him home. She calls him, tells him a big lie to try and get him to drop everything and come home. He doesn't.
Nine years later they meet again. She is the local vet and he is the new owner of a big ranch. She is treating his horses and doesn't know they belong to the father of her child. He knows nothing of the little girl. This hero is a wounded man. A bad childhood with a distant and sometimes brutal father. His mother was no longer in the picture. Then he believes the only girl he ever loved betrayed and cheated on him. He is angry and bitter. Especially after being hurt on a ride that ended his career in the rodeo circuit.
This story starts with them being attracted to each other and trying to avoid each other. She needs to tell him about Cassie but she is afraid what it will all mean. There is a bad guy, so there is stalking, etc. So there is mystery, suspense, misunderstandings, and romance. This story has it all. It is an easy read and I would recommend it for those that love a cowboy romance.
I was not paid for this review. I am not a writer nor do I know one. I am not kin to this author. I am a reader and this is my opinion, nothing more, nothing less. 6/10/18
- Reviewed in the United States on July 25, 2023This is the first book in this series and Rebecca is. a vet with a daughter and she sees Grady the manage loves and the father of her child and they have an enemy about things work A good read
- Reviewed in the United States on August 1, 2023I absolutely loved this book and would thoroughly recommend it hoping that others enjoy it as well. Becca can’t believe that Grady is the new owner of The Flyin’ W ranch where she is the resident vet. He’s the one who got away after she lied to him about having met someone else just because she wanted him to leave the rodeo. Also she’s worried that he might find out her secret, her eight year old daughter that is actually his as well but he doesn’t know. What is she going to do especially when she realises she has a stalker and Grady invites her daughter and her to stay with him to be safe.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 30, 2023I really liked the characters in the book. The plot is fairly typical with a young woman getting pregnant by a RODEO MAN and raising the child on her own. When Grady comes back into Becca’s life, the first half of the story is about her keeping his child’s identity from him. The second half is about whether he feels he’s good enough to be a father and partner. There is a fair amount of repetition that I thought was missed opportunity to expand the suspense portion of the plot.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 25, 2018What's not to love. This story has A major stalker incident going on thoughout the story. It also has a bit of mystery, suspense, misunderstandings, and a beautiful romance. This story has it all. I am so glad that the author didn't portray Becca as some weak, whinny woman. She was well educated, and she knew how to stand her ground when it came to what she wanted, and what she thought was best for her child's interest.
Grady wasn't a bad man, but he had some major issues that stemmed from his childhood. In the beginning I thought he was a bit selfish, but the more we got to know him, we realize he's not as bad as he'd first seemed. And I thought Cassie was a sweet little gem, who seemed to just roll along with the punches.
My only complaint, is that I'd hoped for a short epilogue at the end. Because I really wanted to know how they worked things out as a family unit, and I wanted to know if Grady & his dad mended their fences. Other than that little sticking point, I thought this was an excellent story.

- Reviewed in the United States on April 1, 2021Becca has worked hard and has become a well regarded vet. She and Cassie, her daughter, have found a wonderful little town in which to live. Then Grady comes in to town, and everything changes. He is a broken man, an ex Rodeo Star who doesn’t know if he can ever settle down in one place. He sees Becca and shows her all the anger he has harbored against her for 9 years. They grew up in the same small town which was very similar to Cameron where they meet again. Can these two ever forgive themselves and each other and find the peace that they both deserve? This is a good story with good characters, ones the reader is pulling for throughout the book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Yahoo! Ride a cowboy !
And what a ride it was! Two star crossed lovers have 9 years to make up for, a mystery to solve, and one very important secret to share. I would recommend this book to anyone who has or wants to have faith in a long term love affair, with it's joys and pain, but a happy ending is still possible. It's also about family, good and bad, with the power and healing that can happen when two hearts join together. I also enjoyed learning about a hard working vet. Enjoyed every minute of this book, hope you will too!

5.0 out of 5 stars Rodeo Man
Rebecca loved Grady nine years ago and told him a lie to get him to come home but it backfired and he never returned. She was pregnant with Cassie. For nine years she took care of her daughter and finished school to be a veterinarian. She did try to find Grady but his friend sent her away.
Will Grady ever learn he has a daughter?
Great story could have used less adult content. Also less self doubt.

4.0 out of 5 stars Rodeo daddy
I always love a second chance love story, but throw in a secret baby trope and I'm in!
Nine years ago, Becca Johnson broke up with her rodeo obsessed boyfriend, Grady. She had to finish her education and he wanted other things. Shortly after, she found she was pregnant, but by then, Grady was away on the rodeo circuit.
Since then, she has become a vet, while bringing up Cassie on her own. Now she shares a partnership and lives in Cameron, Utah.
For Grady Farrell, the rodeo was his life. His father had rejected him and the only girl he had cared about was gone. But when he got badly injured, he had to give it away.
Buying the Flying W ranch in Cameron Utah, he arrives on the ranch for a walk through, only to encounter the only woman who meant something to him.
Becca panics at seeing Grady. What does she do now? He's sure to find out about Cassie. He made it clear, he never wanted to be tied down..that's why she left him the first time.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Read
It was a good read. My first by this author. I did notice a few editorial issues - but they didn't bother me too much. However, I did have one quibble and that is with two situations with Grady where things happened that we were not party to; we just heard about them after the fact. The first situation is where Grady confronts his friend about not telling Becca where where she could find him when she found out she was pregnant. I was really looking forward to this confrontation- you knew it was coming and then . . it never happened. The second is at the end of the book where Grady tells Becca that he talked to his father and they had figured out some of their issues. Apparently, Ron (was that his friend's name - I forget now) after apologizing to Becca and realizing things were not going well with her and Grady, decided to step in and contact Grady's father. The first we hear of this is when Grady comes to Becca saying it's all good - he's ready to be with her. What? I really felt gypped that we weren't privy to his conversation with his father, who he had so many issues with growing up, and especially to Grady coming to the realization that he did want to be a full time dad and could be there for Becca and Cassie. I think that was a huge moment in his character development that was totally glossed over. Other that than, I liked the characters and thought it was a good story. I'll try another by this author for sure.
