    * * *

    Queen’s Ransom is a ~8000 word erotic short story containing rough sex, threat of death, bareback anal sex, dark elements, homophobic language, and onscreen gun violence (not between the main characters).

    Queen’s Ransom

    Ethan swims back to awareness with difficulty. His head hurts, and all he wants to do is go back to sleep and stay in that warm, fuzzy place where his head doesn’t hurt and he doesn’t have to think.

    It’s the smell of dust that drags him out of it. Dust and dirt and disuse, and just the faintest hint of mildew.

    He’s cold, and his eyeballs itch, and whatever he’s lying on is rough and scratches at his sensitive skin. Birds sing like it’s morning. He doesn’t remember leaving the club the night before, but he’s sure feeling the hangover.

    Ethan Callahan opens his eyes.

    He’s got no idea where he is, only that he’s in a bedroom. It’s a sad, worn, cold bedroom, and there’s a reason it smells like dust and disuse and, oh yeah, there’s the mildew, creeping across the ceiling where the sunlight never hits. The wallpaper is ancient, peeling, and the net curtains on the window are dusty and torn.

    His head swims when he pulls himself up and puts his feet on the floor. It pounds like his brain is swelling out of his skull. He closes his eyes and puts his hands to his temples and waits for the vertigo to pass.

    He was drunk last night. He remembers that. He was hugging the walls as he made his way toward the bathroom.

    And then nothing.

    Did he black out? Did someone put something in his drink? Was he drunk enough that the entire night after that point is blank?

    Ethan
