This paranormal romance novella is about a werewolf and the woman he's admired from afar. Each A Werewolf's Curse story is about a different couple and has its own happy ending, but there is an overarching plot thread that ties all the novellas together and isn't fully resolved until the last novella in the series. The stories happen concurrently over a twenty-four hour period and should be read in order. Protected By the Wolf is the first book in the series of five novellas. EXCERPT
When they rounded the corner to her street, she groaned. A deep drift covered her yard starting at the front gate. It was going to take her forever to shovel all that. When she stepped onto the place where her sidewalk should be, her foot slipped.
"Oh!"
She reached out instinctively to steady herself. The only thing within reach was Brad. She latched onto his arm, but it was too late. She was falling and pulling him down with her.
She landed with an oomph. The top of the drift was hard and crusty from being wind scoured, but it broke under her weight. Then the fluffy snow underneath enveloped her. Brad landed over her, catching himself on his hands before crushing her.
"A bit icy, hey?" Julie laughed.
Brad nodded. His face was close, only a few inches from hers. The puff of his breath mingled with hers. "I had hoped you'd be under me at some point tonight, but I hadn't expected it to be quite like this."
Julie gaped. She couldn't have heard him correctly. "I… What?"
Instead of answering, he lowered his mouth to hers. Their cool lips brushed softly. She tentatively kissed him back, making him moan. His tongue traced the outline of her mouth, teasing her until she opened to him. He tasted of the coffee he'd had earlier at the store. She welcomed the sweet invasion, wanting to taste more of him. She lost all sense of time and place as they kissed.
She’d never imagined being like this with him. She shuddered as delicious sensations of hope and want and anticipation cascaded through her.
He withdrew and stared into her eyes.
"You're cold. We need to get inside."
She wanted to tighten her grip on him, to make him stay. But he was right. They were lying in the snow, where any of the neighbors might see them. There were any number of reasons to stop this. So she let him go when he moved to roll off her.
He stood, then extended his hands to her.
She nodded slightly but didn't move. She felt jittery and wasn't sure she could stand. She needed a moment, and she needed answers. "Why did you kiss me?"
"Julie, babe, if you get up and let us inside, we can do a lot more than kiss…"

This book was free, and it's the reason I picked it up. I will not be continuing with the series as I will not pay 1.99 for 36 to 80 pages.

I've only read a couple of titles by Lori Whyte but I have fallen in love with her writing style; she is a skilled word-smith who manages to engross me plots and captivate my interest in her characters in novellas that are closer to short stories in length. I mean, how does she manage to get me to really care what happens to Julie and Brad in only 68 pages! Incredible!

The only reason that I didn't give Protected By The Wolf 5 stars is that I feel uncomfortable rating any book that's less than 90pages long 5 stars, no matter how brilliant it is.

Due to the explicit sex scene and language, I would recommend this novella to adults who are not offended by content of this nature and who love quick, erotic but romantic paranormal romance stories with a believable background story.

I have just bought the whole box set series of novellas as I loved this one so much.
