“Electrically fun...turns the usual fairy-tale class dynamics upside down...this is a book that encourages trust in people’s goodness, if not their patience or good sense. It’s light on the romance, but prodigiously good for the heart.”
—The New York Times

In
New York Times bestselling author G.A. Aiken’s gripping new fantasy romance series, the Blacksmith Queen must confront armies and pretenders desperate to take her new-won crown. But with the Princess Knight at her side and a centaur warrior clan at her back, she’ll risk everything for victory . . .

LONG LIVE THE QUEEN

Gemma Smythe dedicated her life to the glory of battle. With her fellow War Monks, she worshipped the war gods, rained destruction on her enemies, and raised the dead when the fancy took her. Until her sister Keeley became the prophesied Blacksmith Queen, and Gemma broke faith with her order to journey to the Amichai Mountain and fight by Keeley’s side.

The Amichai warriors are an unruly, never-to-be-tamed lot, especially their leader-in-waiting, Quinn. But when the War Monks declare support for Gemma’s ruthless younger sister Beatrix, the immaturity of her key ally is the least of Gemma’s problems. She has to get to the grand masters, dispel their grudge against her, and persuade them to fight for Keeley and justice. If her conviction can’t sway them, perhaps Quinn’s irritating, irreverent, clearly
unhinged, ferocity will win the day . . .

Praise for The Blacksmith Queen

“It may be laugh-out-loud funny, but at its heart this is a story of a woman who cares deeply for both the family she has and the one she creates.”
Bookpage

“Tilting more toward fantasy, this paranormal romance will be a hit with fans of both genres who enjoy tales that are lighthearted and humorous.”

Another humourous and battle-rife fantasy novel by Aiken
I am a die-hard fan of anything G.A.Aiken/Shelly Laurenston writes, so it won't be a surprise when I say I loved this one. If you haven't read anything by her yet, do yourself a favor and start now, I promise you won't regret it.•The Princess Knight is the second installment in The Scarred Earth Saga. It follows war monk Gemma, The Blacksmith Queen's sister.•Aiken writes this story in continuity with the previous one. The transition is smooth and you easily dive back into the world she has built. Again, there are a lot of battles, magic and some amusing skirmishes here and there. Most importantly, Aiken/Laurenston's signature rib-tickling humor is there and it keeps you coming back for more. The story never gets dull or repetitive and before you know it, you're reading the last pages.•(Spoiler)•I would say that this time around, the romance was kept to a minimum. It didn't bother me as I was quite invested in the outcome of the story. Little bonus it seems we might be getting a little serie crossover as some dragons might or might not have been sighted at the end ^^•5/5~ #fridayinaprilbookreviews•I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. [I received an electronic review copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.]

Fantastic!! I *LOVE* this series. It's so smart and sassy. The world-building is fantastic. There's a romance component, but for me this is more of a fantasy novel than a straight-up romance. And I love the extra richness of the focus on family, and allies and enemies, in addition to the romance.

I wasn't sure I would like the shift from a focus on Keeley in the first book to the focus on Gemma here, but I loved it. I never got a great feel for Gemma in the last book, so all of the character development here was excellent. I have my fingers crossed that the third book might be from Ainsley's perspective because she was a special delight in this book.

This is far more violent and gory than I usually like in my reading. But the characters, the world, and the story are so exceptional that I keep reading past the blood and death in order to find out what will happen next for these characters. Don't miss this series! The Princess Knight is the second book in The Scarred Earth Saga by G.A. Aiken and Narrated by Mia Barron.

I love Aiken’s Dragon Kin series, which The Scarred Earth Sage series is in the same world, just a different part, so I was very excited to start this second book. I loved The Blacksmith Queen and The Princess Knight didn’t disappoint.

Like most of Aiken’s books it’s pure chaos, jumping from one POV to the next. This is typical Aiken style and best to just go with the flow and not dive deeper into the meaning of things. It’s also got a dysfunctional family, disorders, name-calling, gore, violence, lots of hilarious banter and action.

We start The Princess Knight two years after the conclusion of The Blacksmith Queen. This time around we get to dive into Gemma’s life, the War Monk sister. Besides that we still have Keely trying to defeat her ruthless power hungry sister Beatrix and deal with another threat targeting different religious sects and stealing valuable powerful artifacts.

Gemma is our star in this novel. She’s fierce on and off the battlefield. She gave up her War Monk calling to help Keely, but she must return back to her War Monk home and things have changed. We learn more about her, her journey to become a War Monk and how she’s worried for Keely and her family.

We do get a romance thou the story doesn’t focus on it. It does make for a nice addition. It’s clear from the start that Quinn and Gemma have a strong connection. Their banter is fun and highlights their chemistry. I enjoyed the romance.

One of the aspects I like about Aiken’s Fantasy series is the strong fierce women she portrays. They are all intelligent and strong in their own way and yes they get partners, but their partners complement them and improve their kick-ass ness.

Narration: Mia Barron did a great job. She uses subtle clues to indicate the quick moving changes in POV. Each character has a unique speaking voice. I enjoyed the preference and pace.

Last, I have to just mention the epilogue. OMG I did a happy dance; because I’m a fan of Aiken’s Dragon Kin series, so I can’t wait for the next. All and all The Princess Knight was a nice listen and fun adventure.

Love this book! If I could I would give it 10 stars! Awesome story that had me laughing all the way thru the book. When I saw a the Heretic Royal was in my library I almost cried with happiness. I read over the first two books in the series so that they were fresh in my mind. Just finish the Princess Knight and I must say I live for G.A. Aiken (Shelley Laurenston) new books releases. You pull me into your books like no other author. Anyone reading your books for the first time is in for a treat. I have recommended this author to so many friends I lost count!

I am a fan, I will admit that I have not read one of this authors books I haven't loved all the way to the end. No quick page skimming here due to boredom, if you do you will "miss it", whatever that may be. Be aware that you really need to read the first book in the series, because this book is truly just a continuation of this series storyline.

And to be truthful, it might behoove you to read the Dragon Kin series as well before going on with this series, so you have the back story in mind when reading this one.
The characters are well rounded and so real that they jump off the page, even knowing it is not real. In this day and age it is refreshing to read about evil, emotionless, inflated egomaniacs getting what they deserve and the blemished, scarred, less than perfect good guys continue on with the righteous fight.
Gemma and Quinn, the H/h within this book, are thrown together time and again to the point that they begin to appreciate each other, then they actually begin to enjoy each others company, so the point that their presence is expected. Wary comrades to, as Quinn says of Gemma, "she adores me". Laugh out loud dialogue between each and every character. Lots of action, cursing and blood and guts, so beware.
Typical family sniping abounds but care and love always runs beneath it, while watching each others backs. Was so not expecting the "mad" Queen's entrance, but am so looking forward the next book in line.

I am addicted to Shelly's books. Any mediocre book of hers is much better than other authors ... so you have my disclaimer.
There is very little romance and a lot of travelling but it is satisfactory as the middle of the journey, and I cannot wait for the next.

I anxiously awaited this book and not only was it worth the wait, but it is also worth a 5 star rating. I could not put this book down, it is so well written I felt as though I was in the story. The Princess Knight begins right where The Blacksmith Queen ended. As always, I laughed my head off at the antics of Gemma, Quinn, Cain, Keeley and the poor forgotten sister Ainsley (can't wait for her book). There was no lag in the storyline, non-stop action, drama, evil, and of course laughter. I can't give away the storyline (hint, hint), BUT.... I loved the ending so much I want the next book TODAY! I was desperately hoping this was the direction G.A. Aiken was going with this new series and I am ecstatic! If you are a fan and haven't had a chance, I highly recommend you read her Dragon Kin Series because you will not be disappointed. I also STRONGLY recommend her books in The Honey Badger Chronicles, Call of the Crows, and Magnus Pack Series. In case you cannot tell I am a huge fan and have all of her books.

This story follows on from The Blacksmith Queen and progresses the narrative. So it's a great excuse to reread that book.
This book is story, story, story - not romance with a bit of story attached although there is a touch of romance eventually. The fighting takes the story forward and is not there just for the sake of it. The characters are a wonderful mix of strong, honest, self centred, devious and downright crazy. Of course the the women are strong - and a little crazy. I loved it.
Just when you think it's all over there is a twist at the end which just makes you want to read the next book now. Really I need it NOW.
