About this ebook

Martin David, an eager but inexperienced financial analyst, is the newest member of the investment team at Skeiron Capital Partners in London. His boss is an avowed financial genius, but he’s also overbearing and intense. Despite his erratic behaviour, Martin can’t help being drawn to him both professionally and personally.

Too bad his boss doesn’t seem to feel the same. In a firm where pedigree and connections mean far more than Martin’s newly-minted business degree, Martin feels desperately inadequate—at least until he meets the enigmatic investment manager Alec Berger, who promises to help Martin establish himself in the financial community. Martin is so charmed by Alec’s sophistication and wit that he gives him data that should have stayed confidential.

Then the financial crisis hits. Banks burn, companies teeter on the brink, and Skeiron’s survival is at stake. Martin is pushed into the middle of the fight for Skeiron—against both the tanking economy and a ruthless enemy who’s stepped out of the shadows to collect the spoils.

Return on Investment is the new gay financial thriller from EPIC Award winner and Lambda Award finalist Aleksandr Voinov.

As the author himself admits, this book is an unusual combination of themes. It's difficult to describe this book using neat categories. But I found it to be an excellent piece. Emotionally honest and written in a spare style. Not overloaded with cinematic details, but rather in the main character's head, paying attention to the things he's focused on.
It's been a few month since I've read this, but the characters are still with me. The story kept me guessing until the final pages. Love the emotional suspense.
I thought this was a really genuine book. Five stars unreservedly.

I wouldn't call this a thriller unless you find equity funds thrilling. There are only a couple of scenes that manage any suspense at all. Sadly, this book did not gel for me at all. I was over halfway through it before I even figured out what shape it was supposed to take, and still it just didn't. Frances never really came together as a character for me, he was always sort of a floating dialog box. Martin came across as impossibly young and naive, which was by design I guess but at odds with his wont for sleeping with every gay male in the book. And again, he was wiling to sell his soul for sex. Since the author didn't build any sexual tension, it seemed to me that he just had a compulsive need for sex, but I suspect the intent was more of a "fatal attraction" feel. That feel is something you get by building up to the scene, not having sex scenes in every chapter. Also, the editing was not great. I believe English is this author's second language and there was a lot of slightly off word usage. Not typos or grammatical horror stories, but things like using "don't mind" when "don't care" was meant- they have slightly different meanings. Mostly the tone was still "formula romance" even though there is not much romance in the book, and the effort to create a HEA was questionable.
