There's a reason hearts are kept in cages...

Jessie Martinez takes her vow as a cop “to serve and protect” seriously. When the management at The Factory asks her to keep an eye on one of their female members, she thinks it’s just another assignment. So why does it feel like her heart is the part of her on duty?

Sirena Horne used The Factory as her escape. She knew Jessie meant well, but there was no way she was opening herself to any more heartache. She'd have to be pretty desperate to reveal her secrets, but Jessie had such a way about her. How much longer could Sirena keep those walls from tumbling down?

There’s a secret club in Ocean City, Maryland, where swingers from all over the mid-Atlantic converge every weekend to frolic and play in its many themed rooms. Welcome to the Factory, where in the midst of all the fun, there’s always a romance blossoming, sometimes where you least expect it. You know what they say: everything’s hotter at the beach!

Book 3: Siren Call (Jessie and Sirena's Story)

I want to start by saying this is actually the first FF book I have read; though I have read stories with a little FF thrown in, it was never the premise of the story. Honestly, I had debated on not reading it at all because I wasn't sure how I would feel about reading a solely girl-on-girl romance, let alone anything more! I'm truly glad I decided to go with it and read the book. I've thoroughly enjoyed all the Eastern Shore Swinger books thus far (Phoebe Alexander is an amazing storyteller), but I actually think Siren Call is my favorite to date.

Jessie and Sirena have so much depth. Their characters come to life off the page. You can really see their romance blossom, feel their trepidation to trust, and experience the story as it plays out. It was such a joy to read that I simply could not put it down. From start to finish, I literally read this book in less than one day, and I tend to drag my books out for a few days at least. But I did not want to put it down, I was so enraptured by the story. Now *that* is good reading!

As with the second book, I love that Alexander's other characters from the series play a role. Each book can be read as a standalone story, but the characters interact. It's so much fun to get to read about other characters you enjoyed while still getting a whole new, fresh story with brand new characters to fall in love with. Alexander truly has a knack for storytelling, and I look forward to many more stories in the future.

While the book show a good development of Jessica’s character and an interesting storyline, I felt the character of Sirena was a little too formulaic. Their was not enough details to show how her different names and looks can about, other then a few lines near the end of the story. Both sisters suddenly being reunited on the Cap’s boat as a result of the sherif’s misconduct and Jessica’s use of the information he compiled, was a little too pat. Each other turning out to be gay however needed more follow-up, instead of being a rapid wrap up of the storyline.

Siren Call is the third book in the Eastern Shore Swingers series by Phoebe Alexander, and it is a contemporary romance novel that is also a mystery. The story is about a 32 year old woman named Jessie Martinez, who discovered that she likes girls when she was in the police academy at college. Jessie is a police officer with the Ocean City Police Department in Ocean City, MD and has worked there for ten years. Jessie lives alone in a condo on the beach in Ocean City, a summer beach resort on the banks of the Atlantic Ocean, but she grew up in the slums of Philadelphia, PA with her two older brothers, and her parents, who are first generation citizens of the United States. Jessie's grandparents immigrated to the US from Puerto Rico to raise their family, and moved back there after they retired. Jessie's two older brothers, who were always in trouble, hurt Jessie very badly when she was a teenager. Her parents took her brothers' side concerning the incident, and so now Jessie doesn't want to have anything to do with her family. Jessie has not talked to her parents in six months, and has no plans to go back to Philadelphia to see them. Jessie's new surrogate family consists of the friends that she's made at The Factory, which is a swinger's club where she is a member, located on the outskirts of Ocean City.

One day Jessie was on her way into The Factory, where her good friend, Paisley Mitchell, works as the club's operations manager and Paisley's husband, Calvin, works as the head of security. Paisley was also the person who introduced Jessie to the swingers' lifestyle. The club's owners, Cap and Leah Sheldon, had asked Jessie to come into the club early before the club opened because they needed her help with something. The Factory was the only swingers' lifestyle club in Ocean City and it was summertime which was the main season for the town, which is not only a “tourist haven”, but was also a swingers' paradise in the summer. Cap and Leah wanted Jessie's help with keeping an eye on a new member who had been coming to the club for the last month, a beautiful blonde woman whose name was Sirena Horne. They were worried about a possible liability issue because they had observed Sirena getting pretty drunk and then going home with a different couple or single man after every visit that she made to the club. There was also a mean clique of women at the club who were making catty remarks about Sirena, causing tension around her, probably because they were jealous of her. Sirena was a bit of an exhibitionist which was threatening to some of the women in the club, so they wanted Jessie to keep an eye on her and to step in if there was a problem. Cap and Leah felt that there was something “off” about Sirena and they were hoping that Jessie could help them figure out what Sirena's story was. Jessie, who always enjoyed solving a good mystery, decided to help Cap and Leah out.

After Jessie's first night observing Sirena at the club, she was already attracted to Sirena, which worried her. She had a bad feeling about the situation, but didn't feel that she could say no to Cap and Leah. Besides she was very curious about what Sirena's story was and she was determined to find out the answer.

I really enjoyed this book by Phoebe Alexander! I had read the first book in the series, which was where I learned how Cap and Leah met, and I really enjoyed that book, as well. Ms. Alexander writes exciting plots and always makes sure that the characters backgrounds are complex and interesting. I also enjoy that the stories take place in Ocean City, MD, which has always been a favorite vacation spot for me and my family, since I have lived in the Washington, DC area my whole life. Ocean City is a popular, family friendly vacation spot for many people who live in the MidAtlantic region of the United States. I really enjoyed reading a story that was placed in an area that I am so familiar with, although I had no idea that Ocean City was such a hot spot for swingers before I read these books. Even if I was not already familiar with the location, I still would have enjoyed these books because the stories are so interesting, and I definitely would recommend this book to lovers of romance and a good mystery, too.

Siren Call is the third book in Phoebe Alexander’s Eastern Shore Swingers Series. This is Jessie and Sirena’s story.

Jessie Martinez is a police officer a job she has wanted since she was little.
When her friends Cap and Leah, Owners of The Factory, a swingers club ask her to keep an eye on one of the members, Sirena. Jessie is happy to help them out as she is also a member.

Sirena Horne was a mystery no one quite knew how to take. She showed up on weekends and didn’t open up to people.

Jessie was attracted to Sirena despite their age difference and had to fight to keep things professional. As they get to know each other and begin to open up to each other we start to get a clearer picture. This is another amazing book by Phoebe Alexander filled with twists and turns keeping you in suspense until the end. It is also filled with a hot love story that gets its HEA!

I wish there were more FF romance novels out there. Seriously! It is refreshing to read something that is not all about the male character for once. Something that truly empowers women.
I was super excited to read this book. And it was everything I hoped it would be.

What I love about Phoebe Alexander's writing and that I sometimes find missing in romance is how she describes everything. The characters are carefully described, the environment, locations, and the actions of the characters as well so that we always know what they look like, where they are, and what they are doing.

I also love that this novel treats difficult topics. I can't say which ones because of spoilers. Though I can say it discusses xenophobia and racism, among other things.

I loved all the characters, and my heart broke over and over again for Sirena.

What a beautiful book giving queer women (and women only for once) a voice!

    I really can't wait for Casey's book!

A wonderful addition to the series. Ms Alexander writes a quite compelling love story. Sexy, challenging, and enticing. This book pulls you in and keeps you wanting to know what's going to happen in the end. I will likely read it a few more times because I enjoyed it so much.

3.0 out of 5 stars Content Note: Lots of bi-erasure
Reviewed in Canada on June 24, 2019
I was excited to see read a book with a bisexual women in it. It was disappointing how much bi-erasure there was by the main lesbian character. She continually referred to bisexual women as straight or attention seeking because they also had sex with men.

I will not be reading any other books in this series for that reason.
