Publisher Description
Money is my mistress.
Solving problems, my trade.
Until the tables turn, and trouble finds me.
Now on the run, I need a plan.
But not before I’m blindsided by a pain-in-the-ass stranger.
Maggie.
Curves, startling blue eyes, and she hates me.
I don’t trust her, and with good reason.
My plan is simple: use her.
Then I kiss her. Touch her. Crave her.
She was my way out; now she’s my downfall.

Excellent narration and storyline!
After listening to two of Ms. West's small town contemporary audiobooks I ventured into the darker side and am not disappointed one bit. She writes this just as well as her contemporary.
Nick and Maggie were so much fun to listen to. I don't really know what to call them, strangers to enemies to lovers perhaps. It doesn't really matter because there is an attraction from the moment they meet. When Nick arrived at his friend's place the last thing he expected to find was an intruder using the shower. He acts first and then asks questions...who is she, why is she there, etc. Turns out Maggie is best friend's with his friend's fiance.
Nick's line of work isn't exactly ethical or legal and after they are ambushed they end up on the run together. Maggie is more collateral for Nick, a bargaining chip because he knows her secret, who her brother is. He is not the nicest to her at first but yet is, if that makes sense. She holds her own against him though and doesn't back down. It isn't long before they both start giving into the attraction. Once Nick did I knew it was over for him and she was his future. It just takes him a hot minute to wake up and realize it.
These two just cannot catch a break and danger seems to always lurk around the corner. So many pulse pounding moments in this story. Along with those moments we get to meet amazing side characters like Kit and Caro who just so happen to be the next book and I need their story for sure.
What made this story all the more better were narrators Savannah Peachwood and Jason Clarke. Jason always, always does so good with these types of characters. I believe this may have been the first time I have heard Savannah in the role of a FMC that has some extremely emotional parts and a more intense story line and she nailed it.
