Fungi Foul Play: A Small Town Colorado Cozy Mystery (Backyard Farming Series Book 7) Kindle Edition

4.6 out of 5 stars 20 ratings

An herbalist’s natural remedies are linked to a suspicious death, tainting her reputation. Can amateur sleuth Anne unearth the truth before toxic rumors destroy her friend’s business - and implicate them both in foul play?

The picturesque mountain town of Carolan Springs is typically a bastion of tranquility. But when whispers start swirling that Hope’s Herbal Shoppe was connected to a customer’s recent death, amateur sleuth Anne Freemont smells something rotten.

Her good friend Hope is one of the kindest, most ethical souls Anne knows. There’s no way the natural remedies from her shop could have led to such a tragic, untimely demise...right? Anne is determined to clear Hope’s name and unearth the truth before the toxic rumors choke out her business for good.

But as Anne digs into the victim’s last days, a twisted web of deception and deadly motives is unearthed. From shady supplement suppliers to bitter rivalries and shocking betrayals, it becomes frighteningly clear that someone is desperate to keep their involvement a secret... no matter the cost.

Can Anne sort the toxic mushrooms from the safe morels before the real culprit goes after her next? Or will her investigation permanently expose her to a fatally dangerous brand of foul play?

With an eccentric cast, laugh-out-loud moments, and masterfully planted clues, this delightful cozy mystery with suspense will keep you feverishly reading long past your bedtime. Dive into the delightfully chaotic world of Fungi Foul Play!

I have enjoyed the stories about Carlan Springs. The characters are realistic and well thought out. The storyline flows and keeps you on your toes. I highly recommend this book and the series.

I love my cozy mysteries, and generally once I begin a series, I finish it unless it's not that good. Luckily, Vikki Walton's Fungi Foul Play is on the opposite spectrum, as it brings humor and likeable characters, plus a lovely setting where I learn a bit about farming too. Another enjoyable entry in this series, but I will say... too short! They're meant to be novellas, but I like a bit more meat on the bones, so to say. Poisonous mushrooms are a revenge dish this time, and poor Hope, one of the protagonist's best friends is having a ton of problems; she doesn't need a murder accusation thrown on top of the pile. Kandi and Anne jump in right away and solve the case. Kandi's got some news to share about her personal life too. All around, a lovely installment.

Great story, and a family of characters that should be visited by reading the full series. Life moves on, and do these stories. The reader will wind up waiting for the next one, as I do
