4.3 4.3 out of 5 stars 132 ratings

He’d had his own baby. Without her.

He had everything a man could want--except her forgiveness...
Dusty Cavanaugh has loved Kendra Price since she walked into the school cafeteria and captured a dozen boyish hearts with the sweep of her stormy gray-green gaze and the lift of her chin. College, marriage, and children had been the plan. But then Dusty made a mistake.

She'd wanted to dance, get married and have babies...all she had left was dance.
Kendra Price had never wanted to be rich, but she’d wanted to be comfortable, which she was. She’d never wanted to be famous, but to live her passion to the fullest and dance, which she had. She’d wanted to marry Dusty, have babies and live happily ever after. Now it would never happen.

~*~ Sweet romance by a USA Today bestselling author ~*~

Editorial Reviews

Review

"...throughout, there is always that subtle, golden tug of forgiveness that pulls us through the dark morass of injured emotion, and shows that unrelenting anger damages the life of the one who cannot forgive more than the one not forgiven. Cheryl St.John guides her characters--and us--so skillfully down that road that the act of forgiving is a natural, logical choice rather than a forced, painful decision." - amazon reader

From the Author

What excites me most about planning and writing any book is the difficulty of a resolution between the two main characters. If it looks impossible, I will likely want to pull my hair out at some point, but I will have loved the bumpy journey to a happily ever after.

Kendra and Dusty take the reader on a complicated and circuitous journey of young love, heartbreak and most-importantly forgiveness. Along the way you will get to know and love the Cavanaugh family, and many of the siblings will have future stories of their own. You'll be introduced to the residents of Spencer, Colorado, and you might even wonder about their lives and their secrets.

Cheryl has always loved the exciting and diverse worlds available between the covers of books. As a child she wrote stories and drew covers, then stapled them into little books. She cut all the tiny images from the book club advertisements in the Sunday newspaper and glued them to bits of cardboard so Barbie had a full library.

Cheryl is the author of sixty+ books, both historical and contemporary. Her stories have earned numerous awards and are published in over a dozen languages. One thing all reviewers and readers agree on regarding Cheryl’s work is the degree of emotion and believability. In describing her stories of second chances and redemption, readers and reviewers use words like, “emotional punch, hometown feel, core values, believable characters and real-life situations.” Amazon and Goodreads reviews show her popularity with readers.

The author lives in the Midwest, USA. When she’s not writing or spending time with her family, she’s scouring garage sales, flea markets and antique malls--her favorite vacation is Junk Stock. Among her collections are teacups and teapots, roosters, vintage spice tins, wooden recipe boxes, Barbies, charm bracelets, Kokeshi dolls, white stoneware, Delftware, souvenir spoons, Goebel birds, Royal Copley planters and of course books. Cheryl admits she’s a bargain hunter with the heart of a hoarder, trying to live as a minimalist. The struggle is real.

Cheryl is currently working on more books for the indie series Aspen Gold with her critique partners of many years. She believes in paying it forward, and her some of her most rewarding experiences have been sharing in the successes of writers she has mentored over the years.

Dancing in the Dark is a beautifully written book about loss, mistakes, and redemption. Set in the wonderful fictional town of Spencer, Co. the characters seem to pop off the page as they navigate their hopes and dreams and try to come to terms with their demons at the same time. St. John does a remarkable job tying all the narratives together in a way that leaves the reader both satisfied and still hungry to know more about the Cavanaugh family and the rest of the the Spencer townsfolk. I can't wait to get started on the rest of the Aspen Gold Series.

This was a second chance for two people who were ripped apart by hate. The story started out with her going back to the town that she was raised w. The one town that only knew her by her mother and sister's reputation. If it hadn't been for her aunt she would have ended up in the same situation. But what happened when her fiance tells her that he is to be a father to her sister's child? The hurt had her life devastated. She turned to dance and became famous. Only coming back after her aunt died. There is so much more to read about. It is mostly a story of forgiveness and acknowledging the wrong that was done, of moving on. I will be reading the second book in this series.

As one who has read--and written--my share of books, a storyline without conflict is a deal-breaker for me. But DANCING IN THE DARK has deep, well-motivated conflict that brings realism to the characters and motivates their every action. This is the way a book should be written! Cheryl's knack for details, plot twists and moving introspection will keep you reading to the end. A great book to kick off a great series!

Cheryl St John takes us on a visit to Spencer, Colorado, during Kendra Price's summer vacation. She meets old friends and makes new friends and during some very stressful episodes she learns what really happened six years before. Going home is never easy, and this summer is harder than most. This is a story that becomes very complex, and you meet some wonderful people, and some really nasty people. The good people make this a very enjoyable book, and I think you will find it well worth reading.

Sometimes, just when you know there is no possible way to rekindle a relationship, certain events come to light that change everything.

Kendra's life is not the one she expected, but she made lemonade with what she was given. She made a successful career for herself, but what she really wanted was to spend the rest of her life with Dusty Cavanaugh.

Dusty has never moved on from losing Kendra after making a mistake that would change his life forever. Now she is back in town, but will she hear him out?

I must admit, I both liked Kendra and she annoyed the crap out of me. Perhaps if I'd grown up the way she did - with a mother who insisted she did everything for her children, but all evidence proves otherwise - I'd feel the same way. I'm certain trusting anyone is a huge leap for Kendra, and Dusty was guilty of the most heinous of betrayals.

Ms. St. John took me through a rollercoaster of emotions with this one. Hope, anger, sadness, relief, outrage, you name it! I was not sure how she could ever bring these two back together, but the result was beautiful on many different levels.

This is a wonderful tale of forgiveness, and I love that I believed it could happen. Dusty screwed up big time and I didn’t think he had a chance... then I realized he screwed up even worse than I had thought to begin with!

StJohn cuts to the heart of real forgiveness. We forgive offenders more for ourselves than for their’s.

I couldn’t put this down, so make sure you start page one with plenty of time.
