Mach One: Intergalactic Dating Agency: Cyborg Cowboys of Carbon County #1 (Big Sky Alien Mail Order Brides Book 9) Kindle Edition

4.2 out of 5 stars 100 ratings

It’s autumn in Big Sky Country, and crash-landed aliens are falling in love! Oversized Montana rancher Mach Halley’s very big Stetson and giant belt buckle are hiding a secret of cosmic proportions: He’s a survivor of a transgalactically prohibited private army of cyborg alien warriors built to kill. But with a long-dormant member of his unit about to be born, he needs a healer—even if it’s a pretty little lady doc who must forget everything she sees. Making a name for herself in rural, large animal veterinary medicine has been tough for Doctor Chien Lun-mei, so she takes a strange midnight call to prove herself—only to discover a secret wilder than any bucking bronc. If she rants about UFOs and ETs, she’ll be laughed out of the county, but this strong, silent cowboy who feels even more out of place than she does touches her in more ways than one. Together they’ll fight to save an alien life, but for Mach to escape a war he never wanted, he’ll have to risk an alien love. On the outskirts of the Big Sky Intergalactic Dating Agency, the Cyborg Cowboys of Carbon County are rounding up earthly pleasures for their forever mates.

This is a love story as unique as the characters that comprise it. Killer cyborg turned cattle rustler turned Montana rancher and diminutive Asian (I think Taiwanese?) small town large animal vet. This story is all about taking the chance and revealing vulnerabilities but gaining unconditional acceptance and love. It's not like anything I've ever read before, it veres away from the usual tropes and the stereotypical heroes and heroins, and explores what freedom truly means. Is ultimate freedom being free from the entanglements of obligation to others, or is it the freedom to be yourself and knowing you are accepted and loved exactly how you are? Is being safe freedom? I don't want to give away spoilers, but expect some interesting twists in this story.
    PART 2:
I have just now finished "Theta", the final story of this series, and I felt compelled to add this to my review. This is a good book, the best part about it is the honesty of its characters. They have more integrity in their imperfections than the more perfect characters of other romance novels, lesser novels. The overarching theme of the series is relevant to any reader, to all readers. The struggle to become more, to overcome one's past and the challenges of imperfect character in an imperfect world, is universal. My advice is to look past the silly but attention grabbing descriptive titles that have become marketing necessities of the romance genre. Don't judge a (romance) book by it's cover (ie title), has met been more true than in this often misjudged and underestimated genre. Don't make the mistake of passing over this book and this series. Take the time to read THE WHOLE THING! Because THIS SERIES IS SOMETHING SPECIAL, and you need to read the entire thing to truly see it's value. Some books end a bit abruptly, but don't worry the next book fills in the gaps of the one before it, and put together they become something...well, transcendent. If you don't read this series, you are missing out.

I have to admit it took me several tries to get into this book. But about half way through yesterday, the story finally grabbed my attention enough to finish it after starting and stopping for 4 days. At just 118 pages, I think it was a record for me by taking the longest time to finish for books I do indeed finish. I have been known to just stop with a shake of my head, and move on to another book without finishing. Lun-Mei and Mach are a couple of outsiders that seem to click with each other. There aren't any gratuitous romance scenes, the book was pretty much character and relationship evolution, which is surprisingly refreshing.
Once I hit the half way mark the book started to take off. It was funny, endearing, emotional and I couldn't wait to see what happened in the end, and beyond. Hopefully the next in this series will take off much quicker, if not????
It is sad that this book and series hasn't received much traction since it's publication in 2018.
I don't read this author much, but thought to try her with this series. I can guilt free recommend the book, as being worth your time & $$, along with the above disclaimer.

Loved the idea of alien cowboys but was confused by the inner dialogue of the of the characters. Too little time was spent explaining the Allen's history. Felt lost several times because I didn't have the background information to put the characters into context. Story was a quick, forgettable read.

I do love me some cyborg alien warriors, man. Throw in one who's quiet and kinda grumpy and the size of a small mountain and I'm a goner. Going to be honest, I have NO IDEA I was in the market for a cyborg alien who was also a cowboy until Mach and his brothers made their appearance.

So. Mach and his bros. Well, one bro. The other one was strangely absent and mentioned only in passing. Which I sure isn't worrisome AT ALL.

Anyway. Mach and Delta are looking to stay off everyone's radar, so the potential hatching of an alien species is kind of a big deal. Calling in the doc to help out seems like the only option, except Mach isn't expecting a woman who sparks all his senses and has him feeeeeeeling things.

As for the good doc, she takes all the weirdness in stride. Even after Mach doses her to keep their secrets safe. (Seriously, she's a CHAMP about it and listens to all his reasoning and isn't at all crazy about being drugged since, you know, aliens are real and they kinda do need to stay a secret and who would believe her anyway?)

Cyborg cowboys, folks. Who knew I'd be as gaga over them as the regular type of cyborg aliens? GOOD STUFF!

Look, I've read other people's reviews on this book. "So inclusive" "Not the typical hero" "Surprise twist", etc. What they really mean to say is that the Hero of this story has a micro-peen. Not my words, the actual word the author uses. Tiny. So tiny that when the heroine is giving him special kisses she describes how tiny he fits in her mouth. Not feeling it. Books are a fantasy and a way for readers to live through the characters. While I loved everything else about this story, nothing is more disappointing as a reader to discover the gorgeous, huge, rock-hard cyborg has a 2-3 inch tool. The descriptions of it paint it about the size of my thumb. Come on.... we get enough of that in the real world. !!

Mach was programmed for war, instead he crashed on Earth. For years he waited to be found and never was. Then one day a nice woman drives into his life and his program changes and becomes a bit confused. He was meant for war but finds he only wants to please his woman. How can he do both? To find out read the book 📖 as it is well worth it. Highly recommended.
