About the Author
Christian J. Triola holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Music (Jazz Studies) and a Master’s Degree in Education, both from The University of Akron. He has taught guitar, bass, mandolin, ukulele, and piano for over 20 years and has played in a variety of bands in addition to his many solo performances.

The Missing Method for Guitar is the guitar method imprint of Tenterhook Books, LLC, owned and operated by Christian J. Triola and his wife, Amy Joy Triola. Introduction
I once knew a really good classical guitar player who had to quit playing because he didn’t pay close enough attention to his technique and ended up doing severe damage to his wrist.
I’ve also known players who claim they can’t play lead.
The fact of the matter was they could have, if they would have developed better technical habits. The way they held their picks made it next to impossible for them to play a decent lead part. All they had to do was fix their technique.
Learning good technique, like anything that comes with learning an instrument, takes time. And as you can see from the above examples, not paying attention to it can be quite detrimental.
That said, you might be asking: what is good technique? Though there are specifics that have grown out of the classical guitar world, the basic idea is this: good technique sets your hands up for maximum efficiency while playing and does no damage to any part of your body.
