ArkyCookie
ArkyCookie's journey into the realm of science fiction began with the captivating worlds of Star Trek, igniting a lifelong passion for the genre. Devouring the works of sci-fi titans like Asimov, Herbert, and Clarke, ArkyCookie's literary palate expanded to encompass the diverse storytelling of Tolkien, R.A. Salvatore, Neil Gaiman, Dan Brown, and Dan Simmons. However, amid this galaxy of literary stars, ArkyCookie noticed a glaring absence—an Indian perspective in futuristic narratives. This realization, coupled with a mid-life epiphany, sparked a transformative decision: to fill this void by crafting science fiction that interweaves Indian culture, mythology, and folktales into the fabric of futuristic storytelling. With a 20-year corporate career providing a wealth of human insights, ArkyCookie brings a unique blend of Eastern and Western influences to the sci-fi genre. This fresh perspective is further enriched by an eclectic knowledge base spanning theoretical physics, psychology, history, commerce, neuroscience, alternative health, and philosophy—not to mention a deep appreciation of the timeless wisdom of the Bhagavad Gita. ArkyCookie's writing journey, which began with "drunken musings" of poetry and blog posts, evolved through short stories that friends mistook for the work of established authors. Now, armed with certifications in creative and technical writing and a published book on grammar, ArkyCookie embarks on a mission to reshape the landscape of Indian science fiction. This debut novel was born from a provocative question: "What if our Indian mythologies were true?" The story unfolds in a world deeply influenced by Indian mythologies, culture, and worldviews, offering readers a unique blend of ancient wisdom and futuristic speculation. It's a testament to ArkyCookie's belief that the rich tapestry of Indian heritage has much to offer to the realm of science fiction. This book represents more than just a story; it's the culmination of a lifelong dream, a bridge between cultures, and a beacon for future generations of Indian sci-fi enthusiasts. It's ArkyCookie's contribution to a world where grandchildren can someday read stories that resonate with their heritage while exploring the boundless frontiers of imagination. Chapter 1: The Alignment
The perpetual purple haze of Naraka's twilight sky cast an ethereal glow over the diverse landscapes of a world teeming with life. In the bustling heart of Godhulipuram, the capital of the Godhuli Empire, High Minister Akkadevi Vaidumba strode through the polished corridors of the Imperial Palace, her ornate robes flowing behind her like liquid metal.
As she pushed open the massive doors to the Council Chamber, twelve pairs of eyes turned to her. Akkadevi took her place at the head of the oval table, its surface alive with holographic displays of resource distribution and population metrics.
Esteemed colleagues,
Akkadevi's voice carried across the room, clear and commanding. Our empire stands at a crossroads. The Skaldhara Kingdom grows bolder by the day, and the Kukulkan-Cheradi Alliance wavers in their allegiance.
Councillor Kampana Odeyar leaned forward, his eyes narrowing. High Minister, perhaps we should consider a more... aggressive stance? Our cold fusion technology gives us an advantage.
Akkadevi's lips tightened. Violence is a last resort, Kampana. We've built our empire on innovation and diplomacy.
Suddenly, the purple twilight outside seemed to ripple, an odd distortion that made Akkadevi blink rapidly. She shook her head, trying to focus on the arguments flying across the table.
Miles away on the island fortress of Asgardheim, Jarl Valdemar Atterdag's laughter echoed through the great hall. Warriors and shield maidens raised their drinking horns in a raucous toast.
To the glory of Skaldhara!
Valdemar roared. May our blades ever be sharp and our hearts ever brave!
Sigrid Storrada, Valdemar's chief strategist, remained silent. And what of the Godhuli, my Jarl? Their technologies advance by the day.
Valdemar's grin turned feral. Let them hide behind their shiny toys, Sigrid. When the time comes, we'll show them the true strength of Skaldhara!
As the celebration continued, Valdemar's eyes were drawn to the great hearth. The flames seemed to dance oddly, twisting into shapes that made no sense. He blinked hard, a sudden pounding in his head drowning out the surrounding revelry.
In the floating city of Chichen Tamara, High Shaman Itzamnachan knelt in his meditation garden. Holographic displays showed the delicate balance of power between the three factions of Naraka.
Kavi K'awiil, his youngest acolyte, entered. High Shaman, the Elders demand a decision on the Godhuli's latest trade proposal.
Itzamnachan rose fluidly. The Elders forget that haste leads to error, Kavi. Our strength lies in our ability to bridge the gap between cultures.
As Itzamnachan turned, the garden seemed to shift around him. The flowers blurred, their colours running together like wet paint. He blinked, a sudden vertigo threatening his balance.
Across Naraka, in three distant capitals, the world changed.
In Godhulipuram, Akkadevi gripped the edge of the council table, her knuckles white. Her vision blurred, and suddenly, she stood on the shore of an endless expanse of blue. What... what is this place?
she whispered, lost in the sound of crashing waves.
In Asgardheim, Valdemar staggered. The great hall faded away, replaced by a vista of mountains that seemed to scrape the very sky. Odin's beard,
he growled, his breath misting in the frigid air. What sorcery is this?
In Chichen Tamara, Itzamnachan floated inches above the garden path, surrounded by a swirling cloud of glowing pollen. Massive trees stretched towards a canopy so thick it blocked out the sky. The spirits speak,
he murmured. "But what are
