Operation K-9 Brothers: A Thrilling Romantic Suspense Novel Kindle Edition

4.5 4.5 out of 5 stars 2,488 ratings

From award-winning author Sandra Owens comes the first book in a suspenseful new series full of adventure, sparks-flying romance and companionship between a Navy SEAL, a local artist, and their dogs.

Navy SEAL Jack Daniels (save the jokes, he’s heard them all) and his trusty Belgian Malinois sidekick, Dakota, are back home in Asheville, North Carolina, after a bomb left them scarred. Unable to accept that he’ll never be able to return to his team, Jack is looking for a miracle. What he isn’t looking for is a permanent relationship, though he’s open to a no-strings distraction at the magic hands of gorgeous local potter Nichole Masters.

Nichole is on a losing streak with men. Her ex-boyfriend won’t stay gone, a competitor is out to ruin her business and even her rescue pup, Rambo, is refusing to get in line. A chance run-in with a navy SEAL turned canine companion trainer might solve the dog problem. The fact Jack is easy on the eyes doesn’t hurt, either.

But when Nichole feels like she’s being watched, Jack is the only person she can turn to. He’s a protector and problem solver by nature and training. Accepting his protection is one thing—Nichole didn’t count on falling in love.

"With realistic characters, witty banter, a well-written storyline, and a bit of action thrown in, Keeping Guard will draw readers in from the first page until the last." —Harlequin Junkie

A SEAL, a service dog, and suspense add up to five-star awesome.
Operation K-9 Brothers is the first book of a series about a NAVY SEAL and his K-9 who were injured by an IED and sent home to recover.Author Sandra Owens writes such vivid descriptions that you feel you're going through the raw emotions and intense physical therapy with SEAL team member, Jack Daniels. All he wants is to get better and back to his team, but then he meets a lovely complication named Nichole. The book is romantic, humorous, and intriguing. It also has plot twists that keep you guessing. You'll love this book. And you'll love all the characters, especially Jack's hilarious Grammie and Dirty Mary.

Sandra Owens is one of my top five authors. I have never been disappointed with her books. She writes well with excellent storylines and wonderful characters. I get pulled in and can't put it down. I'm excited for this new series of combining military personnel with service dogs. It makes for heartfelt stories that will assuredly warm our hearts as we fall in love with both the characters and their dogs.

This story is worth a re-read. Jack Daniels is protective, honest, and fun. His swoon worthy actions most probably just made him my favorite for this series. I did want to throw my Kindle a couple times. I love it when an author pulls on my emotions. Dakota, his retired military dog, completely won my heart. He was just as much a hero as Jack. Nichole Masters is an artist who is confident in her business, sweet, and fun, but lacks confidence in romance. She is in desperate need of help, not only with her rescue dog Rambo, but several irritants in her life. Their story is filled with sweetness, uncertainty, and pain, but ends with a tear worthy HEA.

There are several wonderful side characters in this book, but two of them had me blushing and laughing out loud. Grammie and Dirty Mary were hilarious and unquestionably brought embarrassment and laughter into the lives of those they love. Anytime they were mentioned, you'd just have to grin ear to ear and hope you don't wake your husband because you couldn't put the book down to go to sleep.

One scene had my heart racing. Well, there were several, but I actually stopped, put the song UNCHAINED MELODY on, then read through it twice. This is an unforgettable scene in this book! Think the movies GHOST.

I absolutely cannot wait for Noah's story next!

Thank you NetGalley and Harlequin-Carina Press for the ARC of OPERATION K-9 BROTHERS. This is my voluntary and honest review.

I love the start of Sandra’s new series K-9 Brothers. Jack & Nichole’s storyline had me hooked and putting the book down was not an option. Sandra certainly has a way with writing the perfect hero and heroine. Jack Daniels, or Whiskey to his SEAL brothers, is gruff and tough with a marshmallow centre and a heart of gold. In this story their was another heroine. Dakota. Some of my favourite parts in the book were when Jack interacted with Dakota, his military dog and the responses. Dakota is a true hero and it makes my heart full thinking about everything she is to Jack. Such a special bond they have and I just love it. Both Jack and Nichole have been through so much in their past lives and it was such a joy to see how they complemented each other. They made each other laugh, relax, enjoy life and also how to accept love and give love.
Sandra’s villains are always a highlight for me because they are so good at being bad. They get me so riled up that I want to slap them just like Nichole! Another highlight of the story for me was Jack mentoring Mark. Wonderfully done!
“Who the hell are you?” Grammie at her finest. I love Grammie and her nursing home buddies! Sandra always puts a huge amount of humour in her stories which I love.
There were some heart wrenching moments also, such as when Nichole looks at her chest expecting to see a knife stuck in her heart. What a magnificent symbol of the deep feelings she felt right at that moment! Jack dealing with his physical and emotional scars. Heart wrenching.
I applauded and cheered Nichole for her harsh but necessary words to Jack after he ghosted and dumped her.
Their reunion was so full of heart and soul, it was beautifully handled and the conclusion was perfection. A highly recommended read. Bring on Noahs’s story!

What a fabulous read! This much anticipated new series from Sandra Owens doesn't disappoint. The cute-meet for Jack and Nichole starts their romance, but as we know the course of true love never runs smooth.
Grammie and Dirty Mary will have you laughing out loud and wanting to meet them in real life. And Mark, Nichole's brother, also has his moment to become a sibling to be proud of.
Just a fabulous read (and also available as an audio book).
