Deena Rae Schoenfeldt
Deena Rae was born and raised in Texas—a state known for bluebonnets, boots, beef, and big hair—into a family deeply rooted in the printing and publishing industries. Her father worked as a computer programmer for major newspapers back when the equipment filled entire rooms, while her mother has been a publisher for nearly 40 years, persistently (but unsuccessfully) trying to bring her into the family business. In 2010, Deena Rae officially joined The Book Connection—her mother's publishing and packaging company—as the Digital Director, where she launched and managed its e-publishing division. Her expertise in technology, passion for literature, no-nonsense attitude, and sharp wit have guided countless authors through the complexities of digital and independent publishing. Wanting to expand her reach beyond her mother's clients, she founded eBookBuilders in January 2011. Since then, she has helped indie authors and small presses navigate the ever-evolving world of publishing, ensuring their books stand out in both design and quality.

Using This Directory
Welcome to the 2021 Book Promotion Directory . This new edition is larger and more comprehensive than the original predecessor – Book Blogger Directory .
We have expanded the information from bloggers to include any book blogger, not just those who review books. We have included their social media reach as well as what blog posts they are amenable to having guest authors submit to their sites.
This directory lists the blog name, the web address and how to contact each blogger. Please keep in mind that bloggers are people; their love for books was the reason they started a book blog. Be courteous and respectful when contacting them and don’t waste their time or harass them.
Each listing shows what types of guest post each blog is open for as well as the genres they focus on. For example, if you have a non-fiction true crime book, don’t send requests to blogs that only focus on romance fiction. The purpose of this directory is to cut down on wasted time for both authors and bloggers by decreasing the number of contacts to blogs that are not open to books outside of their genre-focus. It is also for saving authors’ time so that they can build relationships with blogs that are more in line with their subject matter.
We have also included the type of book – epub, mobi, print, pdf and audiobook – that blogs accept and the normal time frame it takes them to review the book.
Where the blog posts their review is listed as well in hopes it will be helpful to know on what specific site the reviews will be posted. Keep in mind not all bloggers are able to post reviews to all sites. In some cases, Amazon has removed their reviewing capabilities or they simply don’t have a specific retailer account. A good rule of thumb is to request the review be posted on the blog as well as one or two other sites such as BookBub, Goodreads or another major book-specific site.
The indexes in the back list each blog that accepts books in each genre. It is a great reference when trying to find blogs in your book’s particular sub-genre quickly.
Blog Post types
Reviews – these sites post reviews, either of books that authors have requested a review for or those the blogger has found and read on their own.
Blitzes – these are where multiple bloggers all post about a book during the same time-frame. The post can be anything – author interview, book feature, cover reveal, etc.
Guest Posts – these can be any post by an author that a blogger has requested. Usually it’s about a book, the writing process or something to do with the author’s life, books or writing.
Book Features – these focus just on the book and can be as simple or as complex as both the blogger and author agree to.
Character Interview – these are interviews with a character from an author’s book or series. The blogger can supply the questions for the author to answer as the character or the author can submit something written in the character’s point of view.
Cover Reveal – these are where multiple blogs and social media users all share a new cover to a new book all during the same time frame. Usually a pre-order link or book description is included.
Interview – bloggers sometimes have a standard list of questions for an author to answer in written format. The author can include their bio, books and social media contact information.
Blog Tour – some blogs and promotion companies do virtual tours or blog tours. These are usually a combination of post types that are run on multiple blogs during the same day or time frame. Most posts are different but all focus on the author and a specific book.
Giveaways – usually giveaways are done in conjunction with other blog post types as an add-on.
Unboxing – these are usually video posts that focus on the blogger receiving the book or other item in physical form to show to viewers/followers.
Daily, Weekly, Bi-Monthly, Monthly Newsletters – Newsletters go out on a blog or a promotion companies pre-determined schedule to their subscribers. These are good to let a large number of readers aware of new releases, sales, cover reveals, etc.
Blog Paid Promotion Options
Many blogs listed also offer paid promotional opportunities. This can be website ads, social media blitzes or even posts of many kinds on their sites. These are in addition to their normal offerings of guest posts for authors. Each blog can give you more information. If they not listed as accepting paid sponsorship, you can always ask politely if they would be open to the idea. Again, be respectful when asking.
Paid Reviews
Beware of bloggers who charge for reviews. Currently the only pay-for-review sites that Amazon finds acceptable are Kirkus Media, Reedsy Discovery, Any Subject Books, U.S. Review of Books, and Publishers Weekly. These are considered editorial reviews and you must enter them yourself on your Author Central Page for the book.
The only type of paid review that Amazon supports is an editorial review. An editorial review is a more formal evaluation of a book usually written by an editor or expert within a genre, but can also be written by family and friends. If you’ve received an editorial review of your book that you’d like to post to the Editorial Review section of your book’s detail page, please visit our Author Central Help Page.¹
—Amazon
As Amazon book sales comprise of the bulk of most authors’ monthly royalties, it is best to follow their standards. Their FAQ for customer reviews can be found at https://www.amazon.com/gp/community-help/customer-review-guidelines-faqs-from-authors
While we are talking about paid reviews keep this in mind:
What do you mean by compensation?
Offering payment or any other incentive for a Customer Review is considered compensation. This includes giving someone money or a gift certificate to purchase your book. We consider incentives to be any type of reward that is given in return for a Customer Review, including but not limited to bonus content, entry to a contest or sweepstakes, discounts on future purchases, and other gifts.²

Helpful Hints for Authors Contacting Blogs
When contacting bloggers be as polite and professional as possible. Bloggers get inundated with requests from authors and publicity seekers. Don’t be an author behaving badly with no manners or an entitled attitude.
Make sure you have visited the blog and know if it, its bloggers and readers are a good fit with your book. Your writing genre and its audience is who your target readership is before you contact with requests or questions.
When sending an email, make sure it is concise and error-free as possible.
Don’t spam bloggers or send multiple emails within a short time-span.
Don’t send unsolicited books, ebooks, covers or promotional material via email. Wait to be contacted for the needed information/items.
Book Promotion Sites:
This Directory also lists book promotion providers. These usually offer a variety of services that blogs do – sending the posts to blogs for you and some offer more comprehensive services such as the following:
ARC Reviews Facilitator – handles sending the ARC of your book out to readers/reviewers (individuals and bloggers) who read and review. These reviewers then post the reviews to a variety of locations and sites. The ‘facilitator’ handles all the logistics – sending, tracking reviews, reminding reviewers to post reviews, etc.
Facebook Marketing – these are entities that can provide any marketing on Facebook – maintaining author pages, ads, etc.
All Social Media Marketing – these are businesses that can do Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter, Instagram, etc., either on a monthly basis or for a one-time occasion.
Book Trailers – some promotion businesses make book trailers and commercials. Some of these videos are done with free software or on free sites and some have professional standard equipment and audio-visual degrees.
Free / Sale Price Listing Service – if your have a sale or are offering a book for free, these promotion sites can send your book’s information out to their newsletter subscribers.
We have included those book promotion companies that wished to be included. It is by no means all of the promotion sites available. A list is included at the back of the book with many promotion entities. This list has only the entity name and the web address – no further information is included. We have compiled it only as a reference or starting point in building your own list.
