Christian Science: What Do They Believe? (Cults and Isms Series) Kindle Edition

2.6 out of 5 stars 5 ratings

The Concise Oxford Dictionary defines this movement as "A system of combating disease, etc., without medical treatment by mental effect of a patient's Christian faith".

A close study of this cult, however, leaves one with the distinct impression that it is neither "Christian" nor "scientific".

The "Christian Science Church" claims most emphatically that it holds the true Christian position, but a comparison with basic fundamental Biblical doctrine shows that it is the very opposite of what Jesus taught.

Who are they? And what do they believe?

Christian Science: What Do They Believe? compares the teaching of this group with basic fundamental Biblical doctrine. This eBook is not designed to ridicule or scorn the teaching of those who differ in faith and doctrine, but to examine teaching that claims to either hold to orthodox Biblical Christian doctrine or claim that their movement accommodates Biblical Christianity.

Available material was researched and leading people interviewed, where possible. The conclusions drawn in this ebook about the Christian Science movement are based on information made available and every effort has been made to present the material as accurately as possible.

The battle today is for the mind of men, women and children and we need, more than ever, to keep our attention focused on THE LORD JESUS CHRIST.. "Looking unto Jesus, the Author and Finisher of our faith" (Heb. 12:2).

I have spent a lifetime researching religious and spiritual organizations, individuals and movements and have spent much time on the period into which the establishment of Christian Science (CS) falls. The intellectual atmosphere in New England fostered many works and movements in the spiritual arena. Eddy's work is one of many and certainly one that requires deep reflection for those not put off by the writing style common for the time...it can be difficult.

A female who defied the male dominated society through her writing, establishment of a college ( and a college of spiritual thinking, no less), newspaper and a "religion" certainly attracted negative attention throughout her professional life. I find her a fascinating historical figure who would be better remembered today had she been a man!

This "book" merely rehashes the same tired attacks made during her lifetime by writers and critics who couldn't tolerate her success or thought which steps outside conventional Christian dogma.

Robert Peele's works are factual, well researched and written well. I recommend his work.

This "book" has very little factual information and is strongly biased...and poorly written. I'd pass.

With all of the concerns over religious issues in the USA and the world over, I started exploring many religions, just to understand what motivates people and what their beliefs entail. This is just one of many books I've recently purchased for my Kindle. I believe knowledge brings tolerance for other belief systems and can reduce fears while also uncovering myths about religions other than one's own.
