The Gardener and the Water-horse (Echoes of the Void) Kindle Edition

4.5 4.5 out of 5 stars 224 ratings

I swore never to love again. So why can't I resist the one man who's too deadly to touch?

After sacrificing everything for a new beginning, I expected to be alone forever. It was better that way. Safer.

All that changed when I looked at my reflection in the lake and saw the face of an elemental water-horse instead.

If I touch him, I might die. If I let myself follow the forbidden lure of his voice, not even a sorcerer can save me. Behind those ice-blue eyes is a possessive, merciless immortal.

He says all he wants is the sound of my voice. But I know that won't ever be enough—not for him and not for me.

I've heard the stories—but it's not the risk of drowning that scares me.

It's the risk of losing my heart.

"The Gardener & the Water-horse" is a standalone high fantasy romance, featuring an immortal, shapeshifting elemental who would sacrifice anything to claim the woman he desiresand who won't ever let go once she says "yes".

This book is going to be one of my favorites of all time. I absolutely loved every aspect of this story and it's characters. I consumed this in a day and ran to buy the hard copy. It's absolutely delightful and wonderful and I can't describe it better than saying it needs to be read. What a wonderful work of art, carefully and delicately crafted. What a beautiful world to step into. And yes, it is spicy!

This story isn't a fast-paced adventure. It is a slow exploration. It is one woman's escape to safety, learning to trust, and discovering how far she will go to take back her strength. The water horse is a catalyst for her transformation and the reason she has for never giving up.

It is an enjoyable enough story that I will be reading the next one.

Simply put this is a wonderful read. One of the best books I’ve read in a while. This is not the typical cliche insta love raunchy sex type book. It is well thought out and beautifully written. Just read it you will not be disappointed

Now THIS was a romance! I'm so glad I gave it a try after finding the other book in the series rather disappointing.

We have the lack of communication trope, which I truly dislike, but thankfully it didn't drag on too long and our FMC redeemed herself. The big climax was rather lacking in details and over too quickly- I was rather confused on that part of it. But overall I greatly enjoyed this story and would recommend it.

Well I don't know what I expected but this was very pleasant. The story isn't necessarily complex but it's simplicity was nice. And it was a bit refreshing to read a story where the male mc is the naive innocent one :)

Easy to read. Enjoyed the play on trust and love against pain and betrayal. I appreciated that the sex sciences were limited and actually had meaning. I highly recommend!

Wow! What a beautiful, engaging, human story of love, processing trauma, intelligence and naïveté, the story of falling in love and processing the hurts that fall upon us on that journey. I LOVED this story. I want to read more from Mallory!

Again, I enjoyed the reimagining of mythologies and a sweet love story where people have to conform to be loved.
