Texas Fury (Texas Badge Mysteries Book 3) Kindle Edition

4.3 4.3 out of 5 stars 21 ratings

When Terror Stalks the Texas Plains, Law and Justice Have Two Different Meanings.

Kidnapping. Revenge. Terror. When Saddler County Sheriff Dell Hoffman is forced to kill a teenage ruffian in self-defense, he has no idea the incident will spark a blood feud with the boy’s father, the vicious leader of a local band of outlaws. In retaliation, the gang kidnaps Dell’s wife, Guinn, while Rose Parsons—now serving as interim sheriff in a neighboring town—is visiting their home. Leaving Rose for dead, they turn to tearing up town after town, destroying property and lives in a quest to force Dell into a deadly confrontation. Out of options and under the gun, Dell and Rose join forces once again, putting together a posse with enough strenght to take on the gang and rescue Guinn. Little do they know that behind all the sound and fury beneath the hot summer sun lay a far bigger threat—a man in the shadows with a bigger plan in mind. Will Rose and Dell find Guinn before it’s too late? Can they stop the gang from demolishing the next town in it’s path? Or will the dark puppetmaster behind it all beat them to the punch and destroy all they hold dear?

Full to the brim with desperate outlaws and deadly shootouts on the heated plains of the Texas Panhandle, Texas Fury will leave you breathless and on the edge of your seat, turning pages long into the night.

About the Author

Dusty Richards grew up riding horses and watching his western heroes on the big screen. He even wrote book reports for his classmates, making up westerns since English teachers didn't read that kind of book. His mother, though, didn't want him to be a cowboy, so he went to college, then worked for Tyson Foods and auctioned cattle when he wasn't an anchor on television. His lifelong dream, though, was to write the novels he loved. He sat on the stoop of Zane Grey's cabin and promised he'd one day get published, as well. In 1992, that promise became a reality when his first book, Noble's Way, hit the shelves. In the years since, he's published over 160 more, winning nearly every major award for western literature along the way. His 150th novel, The Mustanger and the Lady, was adapted for the silver screen and released as the motion picture Painted Woman in 2017. In a review for the movie, True West magazine proclaimed Dusty "the greatest living western fiction writer alive." Sadly, Dusty passed away in early 2018, leaving behind a legion of fans and a legacy of western writing that will live on for generations.

Velda Brotherton wrote from her home perched on the side of a mountain against the Ozark National Forest. Branded as Sexy, Dark and Gritty, her work embraces the lives of gutsy women and heroes who are strong enough to deserve them. After a stint writing for a New York publisher, she settled comfortably in with small publishers to produce novels in several genres and mentoring scores of up-and-coming writers before passing away in March, 2023.

Velda Brotherton has a long career in historical writing, both fiction and nonfiction. Her love of history and the west is responsible for the publication of 30 western historical romances, novels, short stories and non-fiction books since 1994. In 2015 she signed on with a new publisher, Oghma Creative Media, with their publication of her book, Beyond the Moon. Meanwhile she works as head historical nonfiction editor as well as continuing to write for Oghma since. Several creative non-fiction books are waiting in line for publication, as well as the re-issue of earlier western fiction with her new publisher. At the age of 86 she is nowhere finished writing or working with novice writers. Those voices simply won't shut up, and so she finds them a home.

She hopes to have more of her work added to audio books soon. Meanwhile she writes a column and produces interviews for Saddlebags Dispatch, a twice yearly western magazine produced by Oghma Creative Media. Reprints of her Ozark Cookbook, as well as Lost in the Ozarks and Wandering in the Shadows of Time are planned. ,

The most fun she's had came when owner/designer of Oghma Creative Media, Casey Cowan, suggested a new brand for her writing. Sexy, Dark, and Gritty so well fits her writing style that it was quickly adopted.

This busy writer who has co-chaired a large weekly critique group since 1988, is no longer able to hold the two all-day yearly workshops she once held, but she still heads up an online writer's workshop. She isn't sure what will come next. She helped write some of the late Dusty Richard's westerns and is now writing her own western series, the Tale of a Woman Bounty Hunter. Her next book due out is the story of the Southwestern U.S. Marshals headquartered in Fort Smith, Arkansas.
