About this ebook

Christmas Eve Excitement

The aroma of gingerbread wafted through the air, swirling around Lily like a warm hug. She inhaled deeply, her nose tingling with the sweet scent of molasses and cinnamon. Christmas was just a week away, and her small town was already bursting with holiday cheer. Twinkling lights adorned every lamppost, casting a magical glow on the snow-dusted streets. Shops displayed festive decorations in their windows, enticing passersby with promises of holiday treats and treasures.

Lily hummed along to the cheerful Christmas carols playing softly on the radio as she carefully hung a silver star on the lowest branch of their Christmas tree. Her faithful beagle, Charlie, sat patiently beside her, his tail thumping a happy rhythm against the hardwood floor. Every now and then, he'd raise his head and sniff the air, his nose twitching at the delicious scent emanating from the kitchen.

Almost done, Charlie, Lily giggled, placing a gentle pat on his head. Then we can help Mum with the cookies.

Charlie barked in response, his tail wagging with renewed enthusiasm. He loved Christmas, not just for the extra treats that magically appeared in his bowl, but for the warmth and joy that filled their home.

Lily stepped back to admire their handiwork. The tree, a majestic fir that brushed the ceiling, sparkled with colourful ornaments, each one holding a special memory. There was the wonky clay star Lily had made in kindergarten, the tiny wooden train Charlie had playfully snatched from under the tree years ago, and the delicate glass angel that had been passed down through generations in her family.

It’s beautiful, sweetie, a warm voice chimed in.

Lily turned to see her mother, her cheeks flushed from the warmth of the oven, standing in the doorway. A plate piled high with freshly baked gingerbread men sat temptingly in her hands. They look amazing, Mum! Lily exclaimed, her mouth already watering. Can I have one? Her mother chuckled. "Of course, honey. But just one for now. Dinner will be
