About the author

AMAZONUK KINDLE STORYTELLER COMPETITION FINALIST 2018!
Audrey lives in the North West of England (a Lancashire Lass) and is of the opinion that she was born about two hundred years too late.
In the real world she has always longed to write, writing a full manuscript when she was fourteen years old. Work, marriage and children got in the way as they do and it was only when an event at work landed her in hospital that she decided to take stock. One Voluntary Redundancy later, she found that the words and characters came to the forefront and the writing began in earnest.
So, although at home more these days, the housework is still neglected and meals are still late on the table, but she has an understanding family, who usually shake their heads at her and sigh. That is a sign of understanding, isn't it?

- Reviewed in the United States on February 27, 2020When a lady with few prospects enters in a relationship with a lord determined to never marry ...
This is my second read by Mrs Audrey Harrison and I must say it is as witty and clever as the first one, Lord Livesey’s Bluestocking, I will be more than happy.
In this slow-burn romance, the many twists and turns the narrative follows surprised me, it has all the romance’s codes but Mrs Harrison adds her own touch and it makes all the difference.
It was like landing in a Jane Austen’s world with more daring characters.
Lady Edith would have been a great friend to Elizabeth Bennet with her stubborn trait, astute mind and sharp tongue.
She by entering in a chosen path instead of waiting for fate to maybe drop the so awaited future groom at her feet, she proves she is no demure miss.
She knows she does not conform to society’s expectations, she has requirements and she won’t settle for less.
Mrs Harrison paints her perfectly, she is not flawless, and with a temper, she can quickly get angry, still she knows her faults. While she follows the rules she was bred in, she plays with them. She will never be an easy prey for any fortune hunter, she might have a beacon of a dowry, it will not be what will attract her future husband or she won’t have any.
Her easy banter with her brother shows her brightness and unusual view of life. They throw quips and barbs but love and respect the other.
Lord Pensby is,in some way punishing himself, having delusional ideas that by marrying he will endanger his mother’s fragile health. He so fears to loose her, he entraps her in a gilded cage, it is still a cage.
He is fooling himself instead of opening his thoughts and heart, he does disservice them both. Thus he does not trust her to share his burden and this way he hurt her and by choosing to sacrifice their possible happiness he shows the low opinion he has of her intelligence and resourcefulness.
I just loved this book, it displays the author’s talent with words, giving her characters all the colors of the rainbow to bring to live in our mind and heart.
Here, everyone is at its right place, they speak to their servants as peers would, without being rude, still there are those upstairs and the ones below, they act true.
I can only recommend this story to every Jane Austen tales’ lovers.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 23, 2022I only gave a 4 because for some reason it didn't interest me at first. I had started to read book 2 and discovered I needed to read this to understand what was happening. I am happy I persevered as this was a really enjoyable story. A "spinster" in the eyes of her mother and the ton, Edith sends a letter to a lonely hearts column to meet someone.... And meet him ahe does and he had been right before her all along. I always enjoy any book Audrey Harrison writes and this was different....now I shall start the next one AGAIN and let you know how it is...this was a clean read and thus for an older woman QUITE enjoyable!
- Reviewed in the United States on January 25, 2025I enjoyed this book because of the relationship between the brother and sister , as well as Relationships with each of their mothers. Family relationships can be trying and this book shows that, even though family can be trying, it is worth it to get to a loving point of togetherness.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 10, 2021Okay... so I was in a slump so it took 3 days to read the first chapter. I would lose interest and walk away. But I always came back. And I am so glad I did! This book had me crying, laughing, and on an emotional roller coaster. There was one point in time where I was so quiet reading, I spoke after 30 minutes and scared my husband. He thought I left the library. Once I started REALLY reading this book, I could not put it down!
Ralph is a total nodcock! He leads her on and then continually turns down her advances.. what?! I mean, I get feeling like you can’t but desperately loving someone... but still... it made me cry so heavily my mom came to check on me.
If you are a person who loves a good cry and can handle intrigue, secrets, and broken men being idiots sometimes, this is your book!!!
- Reviewed in the United States on April 26, 2020I’m not sure I can explain why, but this book was a bit flat for me. I like the ending the most. Lady Edith and Lord Pensby, are nice people. Just a bit foolish about their feelings sometimes. But don’t let this you review throw you off from reading it.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 6, 2023Not your typical romance. Interesting without being too much. I’m looking forward to the next story of Miles. There are quite a few edits needed in this, hopefully the next will be better edited.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 29, 2020True to its genre but good characterization, lots of background detail and good plot and pacing make this book a very enjoyable trip. None of the characters were overblown but remained true to themselves. The plot premise that the leading male character assumes he must forego his desires for duty seemed a bit shallow but also consider age and stress it was understandable. I enjoyed reading this book and recommend it to readers who trend toward this style of writing.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 6, 2020The using letters to fall in love was lovely. The characters were well-written, interesting, and loveable. I immediately liked Edith. A strong heroine that remains strong is always great. Pensby was troubled and troubled heroes make the best husbands. This was such a lovely book. I look forward to reading Mile's story next.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb read
Loved it very much. If you love regency romance, then this book is great read. Go for it. Can't wait to read next book in the series. Loved the way in which the author explained about her research and few other story related things at the end of the book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another wonderful book to add to my collection.
.Audrey never fails to write a captivating story. I loved all the characters and can’t wait to hear what happens to Miles and Susan. I thought Ralph was charming though maybe just a bit of a mummy’s boy for me. It didn’t matter in the end as I re read the page 3 times with a silly grin on my face when he came to Edith's rescue 🥰. I was fascinated to find out the The Times had a lonely hearts column in 1600’s and thought the letters from Ralph showed what a wonderful and caring hero he was. Thank you Audrey for another fabulous story. I would as usual thoroughly recommend 👍

2.0 out of 5 stars Ok
I made it through to the end. The story dragged here and there. Some actions / reactions struck me as unnatural.

5.0 out of 5 stars Light, clean and enjoyable
One of my favourite Regency authors - which means I gobble up her books and wait impatiently for the next one! Light, enjoyable, clean, wholesome, generally authentic as to modes, manners and restrictions, and free from annoying editting errors or non-English spellings, this is a relaxing read and fun escape from 21st century realities.
