His To Tame - T.O. Smith

    1

    Tia

I’d thought I could escape him at the age of eighteen, but I was stupid to ever think so. The moment I’d found a way to escape, I had taken off running.

But now, I was huddling in the snow, trying to keep as low to the ground as possible as Alpha Wells and other people from my pack hunted for me. Thankfully, a few weeks ago, I’d come across a witch, and in her desperation to help me escape, she’d given a spray bottle that contained a sort of perfume that would cover my natural scent. She hated Alpha Wells as much as I did, and in her mind, if he got to lose something that he considered precious, it was a win in her eyes.

And it had become a win in mine.

But now I was cold, terrified, and even worse – in labor.

I resisted the urge to cry out as another contraction ripped through my belly. I panted softly, my cold, freezing fingers digging into the dirt beneath the snow as I desperately tried to breathe through the pain. It hurt so badly. It didn’t help that I barely knew my body – was barely over the age of eighteen – so I didn’t know how to make the pain of labor lessen at all.

I froze when the sound of a breaking twig reached my ears, and I bit my tongue to keep from making any kind of sound as my belly tightened a little further. I kept my ears strained, forcing myself to only breathe through my nose until the contraction passed.

If one of them found me in this condition, I wouldn’t be able to fight back. I was already so tired and in so much pain. I would have to go willingly and hope to our God that I would survive after birthing my baby.

I lightly sniffed the air as the pain lessened, growling softly as the smell of my mate reached my nostrils. I could tell by their scent that they were strong – powerful – most definitely a leader.

And I was terrified of why they would be on my pack’s grounds.

Being only half snow leopard, I couldn’t shift. Normal halflings could, but not me. I hadn’t been gifted with the ability to shift.

Which meant if my mate had something against my pack, my baby and I might very well die today.

Suddenly, a snow leopard was standing next to me, staring down at me through stunning, beautiful, blue eyes. I whimpered up at him, hoping he wasn’t here to hurt me. Every fiber of my being was telling me that it was my mate – I could even tell that by the scent – but I was terrified of him.

He lightly nudged my shoulder, a low whine sounding from his chest before he looked back at me with those blue eyes again. Another contraction ripped through my belly, and this time, I couldn’t stop my cry of pain, my body curling in on itself as I tried to hold myself together. The familiar snapping of bones reached my ears, alerting me that my mate was shifting, but I couldn’t bring myself to look up at him. I was in so, so much pain. Mate, talk to me, my mate softly commanded as he knelt next to me, not at all ashamed of his nakedness.

I’m… I gasped as more pain swept through my belly. My baby girl, I choked out. Labor.

A low growl sounded from his chest, but he quickly lifted me into his arms before he looked at two other snow leopards that were with him. Guard us, he ordered, his voice slicing through the air like a knife, powerful and commanding.

He was so… beautiful. He had dark hair that fell into his eyes a little bit, but the blue of his eyes almost seemed to shine through his hair. His features were sharp and angular, and every bit of him screamed power. His shoulders were broad, and his muscular arms flexed with every move he made to adjust me more comfortably in his arms.

My belly tightened further. I clutched at it, my breathing shallow. It hurts, I whimpered. Please don’t take me back, I begged him, terrified that he would take me back to Alpha Wells, to do what custom demanded and ask Alpha Wells to take me to his pack.

He clenched his jaw, his eyes flashing
