Introduction
Good to have you back, dear readers! I welcome you with a smile and many happenings in which Cosmina is in the centre of new discoveries, through which she succeeds in changing her own destiny and to inspire the ones she comes into contact with.
The book Quilling Techniques: Secret quilling Styles Used by Cosmina approaches the paper rolling technique, also known as quilling.
Quilling, or paper filigree, is an ancient form of art, accessible for everyone and not expensive at all. It consists in rolling a paper strip and gluing its end with adhesive. From the rolling, small circles result, which we will model according to our imagination. Creating and modelling the paper circles, that we will call paper coils, respects certain techniques that will be detailed and exemplified in this book. Also, the book presents sufficient examples for each of the techniques described.
The book is addressed to those who have a basic knowledge about the art of rolling paper and who wish to know more about this form of art.
For those who are just discovering the world of quilling, I recommend the book Quilling Basics: Discover the Magic World of Surprises in Quilling where you can find the types of paper that can be used in quilling, notions about the paper’s weight and about how important it is to know the weight of a paper. Just as captivating is the presentation of the manner in which various types of papers are combined, which, coming to life, have the energy to transmit the emotion and the satisfaction of the success felt by those who created those models, but most of all, the admiration of the persons who saw how many things can be made from simple paper strips. Also, the Quilling Basics book presents step-by-step instructions for creating the basic coils, carrying afterwards the reader to more complex and exact models, which are explained so that they can be made easily at home, by each and every one of you.
In Quilling Basics, we met Cosmina, a young lady with glowing red lips and big bright eyes, who started to like the three essential steps that define this wonderful art: "Roll the paper, stick and shape it. After that, roll another paper strip, stick and shape it." Also, we left Cosmina with a tear sliding on her clean cheek and with a sadness that could be found in her look, lost among so many people. But, do not be scared, the situation is not as severe as I’d perceived it, but it was more of a fright of the child, about which we will discuss in this edition.
The book Quilling Techniques contains 17 methods for breathing life into paper strips, exceeding the level of a beginner and moving on from basic shapes to ones that are more complex.
cap4-tehnica-scobitorilor-a.jpgMaterials You`ll Need in Quilling
This book presents a series of quilling models that you can make by yourself, at home. The bare minimum you’ll need is a regular pair of scissors, a piece of paper originating from a newspaper or from a used notebook, adhesive and a sewing needle with a very large eye. If you’re at the stage of just studying quilling, these materials are sufficient.
However, if you wish to learn the secrets of this art and to enjoy the wonderful works that you will obtain, then you need at least the following materials and instruments:
1. Slotted quilling tool, needle quilling tool, toothpicks, metallic or wooden tubes of various diameters;
2. Paper strips, pieces of cardboard, clean sheets of paper;
3. Scissors, trimmer or tools for cutting paper;
4. Products for gluing the paper;
5. Tweezers, pins, pencil, rubber, compass;
6. Circle sizer, regular ruler;
7. Worksheet, various Styrofoam shapes.
In the book, you’ll find quite often the expression ‘x-sized circle’ (by X, we mean numbers between 1 and 15). This notion is related to the circle sizer, which is a circle template board with holes sizes. So, the circle sizer, used for creating the circle that will
