    Introduction

    こんにちは (Hello)! A warm welcome to you, fellow otaku, as you have picked up this devotional! In this book, we otaku band together in our mutual love for all things anime and a desire to grow in our relationship with God.

    In this devotional, you will find God in the animes you love—whether it be shojo or shonen. Each devotional is penned with a different theme in mind. You may discover how to conquer fear in Attack on Titan or practice purity in Sailor Moon. Whatever your favorite show may be, and whatever area in your walk with the Lord you need encouragement in, it is our hope that these bite-size devotionals will be the toast in your mouth after running late to school: nourishing despite the high speed and stress of life!

    Family like Fairy Tail

    If there was one anime that I would vote for in the category of has the best family, it would be Fairy Tail hands down. Why? A viewer would have to look no farther than the main guild for which the show is named after. Most of the members of Fairy Tail don’t have families of their own and have, in one way or another, come to join the guild. They don’t join just to gain power or prestige, like with other guilds in the show. They join to be a part of a family. This family of theirs is rowdy and nothing like the ideal perfect family some people have in their minds. However, they protect each other, they make sure every member is taken care of, and they never forget those who have gone astray or who have passed away. They are their own support system.

    God tells us this:

    Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves. Never lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, and faithful in prayer. Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality.

    — Romans 12:10-13 (NIV)

    We are also told to:

    Keep on loving one another as brothers and sisters. Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it. Continue to remember those in prison as if you were together with them in prison, and those who are mistreated as if you yourselves were suffering.

    Sound familiar, doesn’t it?

    Throughout the series, the Fairy Tail guild members exhibit all of these attributes. Even when former enemies like Gajeel and Juvia become a part of the guild, they are accepted. Yes, there are times when members get into fights with one another, but they always get past it and grow stronger in the process. Christians, the children of God, need to do the same with one another.

    So take it from Fairy Tail and treat your family as God wants you to treat them—with love, respect, and acceptance.

    Reliance

    Have you ever heard the expression two heads are better than one? The concept of people working together to accomplish something has been around for a while; it’s even mentioned in the Bible! When people work alone, it’s easy for them to get overwhelmed or even fail. Not to mention, there are just some things in life that you’re not meant to do alone!

    A relay race is a great example of something you can’t do alone. The race is divided into sections or laps and a team of runners takes turns running their designated part. In Run with the Wind, Haiji wants to participate in a famous marathon relay race. However, he needs a team of ten in order to enter the race. Without nine other people, he won’t even get a chance
