About this ebook
When Shelby reads a worrying letter from her best friend, Mary-Jo, she feels a sense of unease and makes her way back home. Soon, the discovery of a body in the river sends shockwaves through the community.
Her lifelong visions are now plagued by blurriness and seemed to conceal a hidden truth. Who is the shadowy figure that never reveals themself? What is preventing her from witnessing the events of that fateful day?
Mary-Jo's boyfriend, Ricky, is the prime suspect in a murder case. Despite the accusations, she remains unconvinced by his guilt, citing the deep love and joy shared between Mary-Jo and him.
Shelby's childhood nemesis, now the sheriff, is a constant reminder of the painful memories and torment she and Mary-Jo endured in the past. His strong aversion towards Ricky means he will search for any reason to press charges against him, but is the sheriff concealing something?
In the crumbling house she grew up in, Shelby must confront her drunken pa. Much to her surprise, he is sober, and they engage in a meaningful conversation before he eventually relapses into his old ways.
The weight of guilt for leaving her best friend hangs heavily on Shelby as she confronts her enemy. Will the truth finally break the chains of her past and set her free? '
'A dark twisted talke of love and betrayal.'

Chapter 1
A tree on a hill with water reflection Description automatically generatedShelby locked the door to her apartment, picked up her bag, and went down the stairs. Regret washed over her. She had lived in this little block for twelve months. It should have been a new start. But it hadn’t worked out that way.
Always feeling like an outsider, Shelby believed that by leaving her home and the haunting memories behind, things would be different, but they weren't.
Woodrow, Louisiana, where she had grown up, remained constantly in her thoughts. Events of her life played out like a vintage movie reel.
At nineteen, all Shelby ever wanted was a nice home, good friends, and a job. It wasn’t much to ask, and it still eluded her.
The people at work remained standoffish. It was as if they knew she was different and maintained their distance.
Shelby quickly realized that making friends was much more of a challenge than she expected. She’d also learned to keep her mouth shut. People didn’t want to know what she saw and were wary of her insights and visions.
Still having no close friends, Shelby missed Mary-Jo, her childhood playmate. They had been through so much together. She understood Shelby's need to leave and get a fresh start elsewhere.
Putting in a leave of absence from work, Shelby left her apartment, not knowing when she would return.
As she caught the bus, a heaviness set upon her. She hadn't wanted to revisit Woodrow, and yet here she was, heading back to what she feared most.
Her gazed settled on the view from the window. Fields covered in frost passed by in a blur. When she reached a wooded area, all she saw was her reflection. Wide-eyed and pale, her hair tumbled over her shoulders untidily.
Her thoughts returned to Mary-Jo. Something wasn’t right. Her friend was in trouble and needed help.
Trying to suppress tears, Shelby blinked rapidly, her heart sinking as she sensed something was terribly wrong.
Woodrow, a neglected town tucked away in northern Louisiana, had a population of under two thousand. With its judgmental, secretive, and narrow-minded community, it remained isolated from the bustling world. The residents preferred to keep to themselves and did not welcome outsiders.
The people knew her secrets and chose not to help; not to confront. A family’s business was its own. That was their motto.
Shelby escaped, but then, had she really? Woodrow, Mary-Jo, Pa, and even Rawden were always in
