The Boy I Once Hated: Love & Hate Duet Kindle Edition

4.5 4.5 out of 5 stars 2,115 ratings

I've always heard there's a fine line between love and hate.

No one told me that line could destroy me.

Noah Fontaine.

King of the school.

My living nightmare.

The object of my fantasies.

My new stepbrother.

I did whatever it took to survive him.

Every day he took more of me.

I just didn’t expect him to take my heart.

Because of the boy I once hated, I'd never be the same girl again.

Numb
This story is so beautiful and broken that you cant help yourself but turn the pages to get through it all as quick as you can take it all in. The story of Noah and Skylar consumes you."I know it's ridiculous, the thought that at eighteen you could find your soulmate. But I know with every facet of my heart that we belong together, that he was made to be mine."Skylar and Noah are now step siblings, and even more so - Noah is determined to make Sky's life just as miserable as his. With harsh tactics, a wide array of bullying and evil schemes from the parade of women Noah has on speed dial, he truly makes Sky's high school days, pure misery. Only when death is a possibility, does it all stop and then - the feelings they have been teetering on the edge of, finally come in full force. When they finally are able to light the match together, these characters go up in fireworks in a vision of pure beauty. With forbidden love and promises that make forever seem small, their story is truly one for the books.Only when the ending comes for Part One, we are left in turmoil and much like the characters, the reader feels numb and you cant help but replay everything in your head of how it could have possibly ended like that. Chaos of the heart continues to rain down even after, leaving you in one of the fiercest book hangovers ever. With this all being said, I absolutely commend these authors for such an amazing story. I am in shock on how I did not see that ending coming. I loved these characters and even though bullying is never an easy feat to get over - they were broken together and made for each other. I cannot wait to see how Part Two unfolds for them and I hope they get their HEA they deserve.*Overall 5/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️*Med/Slow Burn*Heat? 4/5*Bully, Enemies to Lovers, step-brother romance 😉*Ends on heartbreaking cliffhanger

I don’t typically write reviews, but WOW. It has been a long time since I’ve had so many feels from a story! You can *feel* the characters emotions through the expressive writing and can picture it all vividly in your mind. No spoilers here, even though I could blather on and on! Highly recommend - off to book 2!

My heart is officially in my throat. The story starts out sad with a teen boy named Noah who is losing his mother to cancer. He is such a devoted, loyal loving son. Then it turns a bit when we meet Skylar. She is a recluse who prefers escapism through creative writing/stories and fictional characters instead of engaging in real life bc she’s so sad & alone. She struggles with speaking her feelings and even more with dealing with them so she hides. Then there is her over the top older siblings Daisy who is the opposite in many ways. Yet I get the feeling Daisy feels as much as Sky does, she just masks it better by putting on a mask. They are close and Daisy is protective of Sky. Making it seem like maybe Sky needs her often in the story but truly it’s Daisy who needs Sky. The story of Noah and Skylar is frustrating, horrifying, sad, and beautiful. I don’t like what he does at the end (sorry for any spoiler). He could’ve handled it wayyyy differently especially after all this girl has been through. But hey, boys are dumb when it comes to being logical when feelings are involved. I just hope that Book 2 is a better life for Sky and a huge wake up call for Noah. He had better get those knee pads ready bc he needs to do serious groveling and begging for forgiveness. Skylar deserves the world 🌎

I hardly write reviews, but this has been one of my ultimate favorite reads. It made me feel so much thru this book. It was a damn rollercoaster. When I tell you I understand how Sky felt towards Noah, you will understand when reading it. There is definitely lots of a mixture of feelings for these characters. But it's definitely a great read.

The story kept my interest. This is the first time I've read a bully romance where I was more interested in the dynamics between the family than I was the actual love story of the main characters. This might be because nothing really happens in the first 60% of the story to solidify Sky's and Noah's feelings for each other. They don't really have moments of bonding until the 65% mark.

I found that I really wanted more progression and emotional scenes between the parents and the kids. That felt real. The attraction between sky and Noah did not feel real. Neither did the hate they initially had for each other. I just felt that while the characters had depth and felt 3 dimensional, the emotional aspect felt a little surface level. This isn't helped by all the weird time jumps.

The time jumps didn't help because they didn't become close until towards the end. Had the book spent a longer time developing their bond it would have felt more real. I'm not certain I'll read the next book. The ending was so pointless and a poor attempt at a cliff hanger.

    First things first-
    Spice 🌶🌶🌶/🌶🌶🌶🌶🌶 (3/5)
    Violence/gore (1/5)
    M/F
    Medium slowish burn
    Cliffhanger? Yes
Tropes- high school, virgin, bully, step brother, nerdy girl/popular guy

The premise is simple but angsty. The main male character has recently lost his beloved mother to cancer and when his father rapidly moves on and marries another woman with two daughters he takes his anger and pain out on the younger, quieter, more vulnerable daughter.

There are aspects of this story that could be considered triggering, bully romances tend to fall under the dark romance genre and this is no different. It's not DARK dark, but the main female character is bullied mercilessly throughout most of the book. So be forewarned.

What sets this story apart from the average high school bully romance was the element of pain and angst both characters experienced driving their behaviors. There is a sadness to this story. In many bully romances the reasoning behind the bullying can be superficial and ridiculous. Often the boys are rich and bored and malicious for entertainment. In this case the boy is broken and hurting and confused and vicious.

Having said all that it was written beautifully and I'm eager to see how it all turns out in book two.

The story is for angst lover. So if you are in a mood to read angst then this book is a hit, i liked the story but didn't like the character especially FMC, i hope she improves her self in the next book
She has issues and that's okay but one can't love fully if you don't learn to love yourself. The spice is good too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tugs at your heartstrings so much!

Emotional from start to finish, The Boy I Once Hated will leave you feeling a bit broken at times, falling in love with Noah and yet wanting to throw your kindle and sometimes feeling all three at the same time. Your feelings and thoughts will clash, it'll tug on all your heartstrings and take you on one of the best emotional roller coasters I've ever been on. I've got a feeling that book 2 of this duet, will hit so much harder.
I had sooo many mixed feelings about Noah, and I wanted to be angry for Skylar, but that boy and his pain is just another example of the tugging on your heartstrings. You can't not fall for him. I love the whole relationship and chemistry between Skylar and Noah, and I can't wait to see how it's all going to unfold.
This book is extremely well written and thoroughly enjoyable. It was nothing like I had imagined, it was so much more, so much better. I highly recommend!

    5.0 out of 5 stars I’m addicted

Holy crap I was not expecting to love this book as much as I did, but it grabbed me and I was lost. Lost in a story that angered me, shocked me and had me absolutely despising our male lead until I didn’t.

The investment I have with these characters is scary. It’s like a train wreck, you know the dangers coming but you’ll keep turning those pages because you need to see what’s going to happen.

The chemistry was smoking hot, the spice factor was off the hook. But it’s the story that got me. Made me question why I’d enjoy someone else’s misery to be honest. But it wasn’t like that, it was waiting for her to stand up for herself and be this amazing woman she was becoming.

It gutted me, my heart was broken for both of them. But that ending? Wow.

Now I’m impatient for book two.
