Extinguishing The Stars: Amaranthe Short Stories, #9
()
About this ebook
The fleet rushed to meet the invaders at the edge of the solar system upon their arrival. Every countermeasure was deployed to stall the enemy's advance—their forces held nothing back.
No soldier who fought on the battlefield today would ever return home.
With an unstoppable foe advancing on the Elakri homeworld, its leaders face an impossible choice: stand, fight and die, or risk everything on one daring, impossible chance to survive the enemy's onslaught. But when terrorists kidnap the scientist at the heart of their plan, a retired spy must confront the demons of his past in order to give his people that chance.
For readers of the AMARANTHE series, Extinguishing the Stars is a prequel to "The Universe Within," taking place some 9,000 years before the novel.
G. S. Jennsen
G. S. JENNSEN lives somewhere in the U.S., in a locale that may or may not be where she lived the last time she published a book (she’s a gypsy at heart), with her husband and one or more dogs. She has become an internationally bestselling author since her first novel, Starshine, was published in 2014. She has chosen to continue writing under an independent publishing model to ensure the integrity of her stories and her ability to execute on the vision she has for their telling. While she has been a lawyer, a software engineer and an editor, she’s found the life of a full-time author preferable by several orders of magnitude. When she isn’t writing, she’s gaming or working out or getting lost in the mountains that loom large outside the windows in her home. Or she’s dealing with a flooded basement, or standing in a line at Walmart and wondering who all these people are (because she’s probably new in town). Or sitting on her back porch with a glass of wine, looking up at the stars, trying to figure out what could be up there. * Website: gsjennsen.com. The two neutron stars shone in luminous blue-white x-rays as they orbited one another like tethered weights spun round a post.
Lirin’s sphere acted as both high-powered telescope and protective bubble, providing him breathable air, radiation protection, and a layer of gravity to keep his orientation steady. He enjoyed the imminent kilonova from a safe distance of 0.3 megaparsecs, comfortably situated in interstellar space between Oriani IV and… well, not much else for a while.
The neutron stars’ orbits grew frenzied, and even with the telescope’s extreme magnification, he could scarcely detect any separation between the stars. It shouldn’t be long now—
I always find you in the damnedest places.
Lirin turned to see Deputy Director of State Security Jenova Colonnei standing near the far wall of the sphere, the shimmer of a spaziporta fading away behind her. She wore the charcoal emblazoned jacket of her office
