All right, I confess! I love physics. I blame my misspent youth reading science fiction by the likes of Asimov, Heinlein, and Clarke. Not surprisingly, I also love science fiction. I grew up in Missouri, in a family of overeducated overachievers. Following in their footsteps, I've earned far too many degrees including an M.S. and a Ph.D. in Elementary Particle Physics and an MFA in Writing Popular Fiction. Hmm? I may have a split personality. The evidence shows I've authored or co-authored many scientific articles, and am a longtime member of the American Physical Society. I'm also a founder and editor of the speculative fiction ezine http://www.electricspec.com and a longtime member of the Science Fiction/Fantasy Writers of America. Both sides of my personality live in Boulder, Colorado where I do physics by day and science fiction by night. Please visit me on the web at http://www.lesleylsmith.com.

    Temporal Dreams Excerpt

This was Kyle's first short story in the Temporal Dreams world. It takes place after the events of Temporal Dreams, so, I was excited to find out what happened to Kyle. In particular, I wanted to explore the concept of traveling to the future…

    Future Dreams

    Sydney, Australia

I wanted to go to the future. But I couldn't quite figure out how.

My family owned and operated Time Advantages, Inc. a time-travel agency based on our unique ability to access Dreamtime. We were Australian Aborigines.

I had new information that travel to the future was possible.

Quit your moping, Kyle, my mate Liam said in between swallows. If you want to go to the future, go. We were downing a few beers at our apartment. No matter our physical differences, light and dark, large and normal, Liam and I were brothers. I knew I could count on him in a pinch, or when we were pinching something.

Ray had a ray-gun he claimed he got from the future, I said. Ray was dead now, but before he died he'd been a very effective temporal criminal. Liam had helped me break a few rules to catch him.

I can't figure out how he went to the future, I said. I'd pondered it and pondered it, but no go. I knew, technically, Dreamtime encompassed all of time itself. But Travelers only seemed able to access time during their own physical pasts.

You can time travel, mate! Liam said. "He got the ray-gun in his and
