The Glass Thief is the sixth book in the Jaya Jones mystery series by author Gigi Pandian. I absolutely adore this series and have been waiting on pins and needles for this book to come out. The Glass Thief is just as captivating and engrossing as the Jaya books and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. It had a little bit of everything. We get a picture of Jaya's academic life as a university history professor, watch as her relationship with Lane continues to go through hurdles and obstacles, and see Jaya's love of adventure and puzzles as she sets out to solve a murder and find a missing Cambodian treasure.

The book begins with Jaya arriving at the Tandoori Palace to play her gig with Sanjay. She is met there by one of her current history students and one former student who have made an interesting discovery at the University library. She is also met by Miles, who has received an interesting letter from novelist Rick Coronado who needs Jaya's advice on the novel he is writing after seven years of not writing anything. Jaya also discovers that Lane has purchased her dream house in Berkeley and wants her to move in with him. Unfortunately, she also discovers that he still has secrets from her and that makes her hesitant about taking the next step in their relationship.

As the story progresses, we get a fascinating adventure through France and Cambodia, and we also see how the choices Jaya makes begin to affect her daily life. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and can't wait to read future books in this series.

I have loved all of Gigi's books in this series. However, this book, The Glass Thief, has been the most satisfying and heartwarming of all. Usually I'm happy to learn about details of past history and new archeology findings made after 1986, (I had a baby In 1986 and sort of lost track of the rest of the world. I know, no excuse!) In this book there were plenty of new things to learn.about, and most appreciated, but it was the personal side of Jaya Jones we see in completion that made this book outstanding.

I always look forward to the release of a Jaya Jones mystery. They’re quick, easy reads, but they’re full of historical and cultural details that other beach-read mysteries lack. The diversity of the characters adds interest and depth to their stories without relying on annoying (or even hurtful) stereotypes.

This book in particular felt NOT QUITE as adventurous as some previous selections in the serious - much more like a locked-room mystery with a little travel thrown in for folks who come here for that. That being said, if you like the Jaya Jones series, you’ll like this book!

What can I say? Gigi's books are always preordered and I always say I'm not going to read it in one session, but I lie!! The Glass Thief was no exception!
Jaya Jones is supposed to be a history prof, but she love's chasing down mysteries and historic treasure just as much, if not more, than her day job. When 2 students involve her in a search for a Naga King statue that was looted from Becca's home (one of the students) and her father had died during the robbery, Jaya is intrigued. Add to the mystery the fact that Jaya's favorite author is writing a book about the disappearance and death and asked for her assistance, she finds herself chasing down a snake statue.
Usually I have a sneaky suspicion who-done-it, but this one really had lots of red herrings and really stumped me.
Love the character development, but feeling bad for Sanjay. He needs a girlfriend!
Now I can't wait for the next book, whether it's this series or The Accidental Alchemist series.

Jaya Jones latest adventures are contained in yet another irresistible book. Gigi Pandian skillfully combines exotic locations, human drama, romance, and history/archeology into a riveting story. Certainly surprised at the murderer, and loved the touching end. I just want to know when these books are going to be the next great filmed series??? Congratulations, Gigi, for another masterful murder mystery!

I have enjoyed reading all of the Jaya Jones mystery series. Not only does Pension give us a treasure-puzzle to solve, she teaches some history along the way.

Ms Pandian has quite a gift for her character and location details.
I find the people are very real and the locations are so well presented that the reader might be tempted to check that their passport is up to date.
A terrific combination of history and fiction.

This is my second foray into Jaya Jones territory. The first was The Cambodian Curse, a collection of short stories. I enjoyed The Cambodian Curse, but definitely preferred The Glass Thief because the novel format gives a great deal more room for development of characters and the relationships among them. The book started out a bit slowly, but by about a third of the way in, I found myself resisting putting it down because I'd become fully engaged and wanted to know what would come next, not just in terms of the central mystery, but also in Jaya's personal and professional lives. I will definitely continue reading this author.
