About this ebook
What happens when the curse goes wrong, but the outcome is all right?
Ryan Rourke wasn’t looking for love when he sat at the foot of the statue, Michael Emerging. The inanimate object listens and he could swear there’s someone beneath the granite. One night he gives into his desire and kisses the statue. It won’t hurt anything, right? It’s just a granite statue—except there’s a soul in the cold rock.
Indio fell in love with Ryan the moment the shy college junior spoke to him the first time. The tenderness, warmth, and sense of humor were everything Indio wanted—if he weren’t trapped in granite. The attraction is stronger than he ever thought possible. Can Ryan’s kiss free him forever? Or will the power of Zeus and the majesty of the curse be too much to overcome? If Indio has his way, he will get his man.

Chapter One
Ryan Rourke strode out of the art building. He’d walked past the statue, Michael Emerging, a thousand times in his three years at Taynor University and never failed to stop. He admired the strength in the form, but also the sadness in the man’s eyes. The power in the man’s stony gaze transfixed Ryan. Strength, masculinity and so sexy … the man in the statue was physically everything Ryan wanted in a man—except Michael was a statue and Ryan was a human. He wondered what Michael’s personality might be like.
You stare at him every day,
George said. He stopped next to Ryan. I don’t know what’s so fascinating about him. Just looks like a Greek statue that was never finished. It’s not that great.
I don’t know. He looks sad, like he’s still got work to do or there’s more to his story, but he was stopped mid-action.
Ryan held onto the strap of his bag. It’s like he’s alive in there somewhere.
You’ve been staring at him for too long,
George said. He’s a statue. He’s stone. There is no one living in there.
Ryan nodded. He’d known George since his freshman year when they lived across the hall from each other in Tabor Hall. George’s blunt way of speaking and his sparkling personality had drawn Ryan in. They’d been friends from the start and he’d encouraged George to come out. George tried to fix him up with friends of his boyfriend, but none of the dates ever worked out.
Another student, Hudson, strolled over to Ryan and George. Are you still staring at the statue?
Hudson asked. It’s here, just like every other day.
Why does everyone want to know what I’m doing? Ryan tamped down his embarrassment. Jesus. His heartrate elevated and he wanted to hide. He’d crushed on Hudson since he’d spotted him on the first day of Art History II and never expected him to notice someone as plain as Ryan. Hudson exuded machismo and self-assurance. Never a hair out of place and always in a good mood. People clamored to be at his side.
He loves the statue,
George said. Probably good since his last boyfriend cheated on him. If he’s with someone made of stone, the guy can’t leave or cheat. He won’t argue and you’ll know where he is.
The tips of Ryan’s ears burned. Christ on a cracker. George had been there the night Ryan found his boyfriend, Joe, in bed with another guy, but that didn’t mean George needed to broadcast those facts to everyone.
Some guys like to wander,
Hudson said. Got to keep them engaged.
Yeah.
Ryan hated being tongue-tied, but Hudson was handsome and required most of Ryan’s attention. He wondered what Hudson tasted like and if he kissed well.
I’ll see you later. I need to sign up for next semester’s classes.
Hudson waved. See you Thursday in class.
Ryan waved. Hudson knew they were in the same class? Holy shit. Once Hudson was out of earshot, Ryan elbowed George. Thanks for making such a big deal about my ex. Why would you do that?
First, Hudson is way out of your league,
George said. Second, you have no chance with him. I know how you drool over him. Just don’t.
I don’t drool.
Not much anyway.
Look, he never dates the same guy for more than three days. Lenox dated him and three days after they started, Hudson dumped him. Tossed him aside like an old shoe.
George shrugged. I’m trying to save you some heartache. Hudson isn’t worthy of you.
I should say thank you, but I’m not feeling that gracious.
Ryan stared at the statue to keep from looking at his friend. George could be too ballsy, but he had a point. Ryan hadn’t been enough for his ex-boyfriend, Joe. Joe needed constant attention and a man who could keep up with his binge drinking. Ryan wasn’t much of a drinker and was the boyfriend type.
Just forget Hudson. He’s not worth it.
George nodded to the main walkway. And stop staring at the statue. It’s weird.
Fine.
He stole another glance at Michael. He could’ve sworn the statue watched him. Was it? He wasn’t sure and the feeling struck him as odd, but reassuring.
I’ve heard there are statues that come to life,
George said. Not the animatronic kind, but really alive. There’s a college where a guy kissed a statue and it came to life. I think it’s bullshit, but whatever. Statues are rocks or metal or whatever. They can’t have life in them.
Yeah,
Ryan said, though he didn’t agree. He’d seen a few statues created so well that they seemed to embody life. Still, he shouldn’t stare. Let’s go.
He abandoned the statue, but George had piqued his curiosity. Statues coming to life. Strange. He’d have to investigate because if there was a statue he wanted to be alive, it was Michael. He fell into step beside George and headed past the basketball arena to the student center. He opened the door for George, then followed him into the food court.
What sounds good?
Ryan asked, not in the mood for anything in particular.
Tacos.
George placed his backpack on a chair. I’m buying. How many do you want?
Why not get a combo and we’ll split it?
Ryan settled on the other chair. I’ll buy tomorrow.
Sweet.
George strolled off, leaving Ryan alone at the table.
Ryan opened the cover on his tablet, then tapped the icon for the internet. If he were to look up information on statues coming to life, where would he start? Real life statues? That could be human bodies in live statues. Kent statues? Maybe. Statues? Too vague. He typed in Kent statues coming to life. Before he could peruse the results, Hudson sat beside him at the table.
There you are, bae.
Hudson crowded against him. You said noon.
Huh?
Ryan closed the cover on his
