The smartphone buzzed in his pocket.
Was that her?
Steve Adams pulled out his phone and sighed. Just a reminder to take out the recycling. He swiped through the different apps until he got to the phone app. He stared at the screen, his thumb hovering over the number pad. As she wrote her personal number on his business card, he’d memorized the numbers.
She said to call her anytime.
What did that even mean? Did she mean that she wanted him to call her any time of the day? How late was too late? Or had she said it as more of a social nicety—not that she necessarily wanted or expected him to call, but that if he did call, she wouldn’t outright be upset?
