About this ebook

Christmas is a time for love...and second chances.

At 47 years old, Jillian Osborn was too old to believe in fairy tales and finding love twice in one lifetime wasn't in the cards for her, or was it? Every time she saw him, she couldn't help but long for the handsome Tim Jacobs in spite of her honorable husband's memory.

Ornery widower and Black Bear Shifter, Tim Jacobs had already found his true love. After his first wife passed away, he wanted nothing to do with the opposite sex. Then Jillian walked into his life, and he's been lusting after the stubborn flower shop owner ever since.

It didn't help that his daughter and her stepdaughter were BFFs. The confounded woman was everywhere he went. Every social event and gathering without fail.

When the girls plan for a family holiday dinner together, Tim is determined to stay away for both their goods. Then Jillian knocks on his door demanding an explanation. It's all the older Bear can do to keep his animal from staking his claim. His Black Bear knows what he wants, but his human side just isn't sure.

Will Jillian wind up with a Bear for Christmas?

A Message from one of The Devlin Brothers…

    Season’s Greetings!

This is your Alpha, Marcus Devlin. My family and I would like to send our warmest holiday wishes to all of our Clan members this season!

Here are some local events for you all to enjoy. A youth concert will take place in the new park with performances by the Macconwood-Nighthawk Teen Outreach Program Choir on December 23 rd. The performance is conducted by Cassie Evangelos, she is the wife of Dr. David Evangelos who is a friend from the Macconwood Pack and also the Emergency Department Chief over at Macconwood Memorial Hospital. We are honored to have them.

The Holiday Lights Festival will go on as planned the entire week before Christmas. Our Enforcer Security Unit will be overseeing things along with Roxanne Winters who is in charge of PR this year. Also, please note there is a new contest for the title of Miss Frosty that will be chosen by Locke and Nita Nanouk and the winner will receive a scholarship to be provided by Honey Sweet Creamery.

There will also be a house decorating contest that my wife and sisters-in-law will be judging, be sure to fill out the online form so they know to drive by your home. The winner will receive a five-hundred dollar gift certificate for Bear Claw Bakery.

Now, for all you single Bears out there, I’d like to take this opportunity to mention the Singles in Maccon City Annual Charity Ball. I know it is not Barvale, but this year’s proceeds are benefiting the Macconwood-Nighthawk Teen Outreach Program which I know to be a worthy cause. Plus, our very own Flowers by Jill is decorating the event.

Remember this is the season of giving and good will towards all. Even Wolves.

Peace and happy holidays to you all, my friends, and don’t forget to stop by the Den for some of Clary’s magical Christmas stollen if you have a moment. Fair warning, she doesn’t give out seconds.

If there are any questions, feel free to send an email, make a call, or drop by the bakery.

    Thank you.

    Sincerely,

Marcus Devlin, Barvale Clan Alpha and co-owner of Bear Claw Bakery Inc.

    Prologue

Tim Jacobs grunted as he heaved the ax over his head and swung down mightily, splitting the log in two perfect sections. He had enough firewood to last him ten winters, but nothing else seemed to stop the ache that seemed to constantly pulse in the middle of his chest.

His Black Bear chuffed. The beast had other ideas how to ease the incessant gnawing. No, he told himself. He would not even think it.

Dad! the sound of his daughter shouting his name got his attention, and Tim dropped the ax.

He jogged around to the front of his home searching for his cub. Sure, he could’ve sold the two-story Colonial when Nita had moved into her grandmother’s house, but he was a creature of habit. This house was his mother’s before she’d married into the Jacobs family. It was his when he’d met his mate, and later married her. Nita was born in that house.

He’d just had the cedar shakes cleaned and resealed for the winter to come. He liked the natural, clean look of them and remembered when his own grandfather had installed them with his father’s help. The trim was painted a deep, forest green, and the wraparound porch was swept and tidy.

This house was part of his history, the Jacobs’ history. He looked forward to leaving it to his grandchildren someday. No, he would never sell. Tim would live in it until he died.

So many memories. So many good times. His Katherine was a sweet and gentle woman. Kind natured and far too good for a grumpy Bear like him. But that was the Fates for you. Mysterious and generally a bunch of pains in his ass. Why else would they have taken his sweet mate away so soon?

They’d held off on having children until more than half-way through their marriage. Nita was just seven when her mother had met her end in
