Publisher Description
McCall Richter works as a skip tracer, tracking down criminals, con men, and people who stop making payments on their fancy new spaceships.
Her job description says nothing about locating vast quantities of stolen maple syrup, but thanks to her helpful new android employee, she finds herself tramping through a “sugar house” on a frosty moon full of suspicious characters. The only witness to the crime? The junkyard dog next door.
Junkyard is a stand-alone novella set two years before Fractured Stars.

Albeit short, Junkyard is an excellent example of Buroker’s literary skills. Believable characters, including the android and the dog, interesting setting and plot and lively, purposeful action all keep the story moving and interesting. Buroker’s work has never failed to entertain and enlighten me so I read as much of this author as I can. Once you get started, you probably will too.
Just the way I like it
Ok, I prefer my sci fi non-violent, skip the romance (especially “steamy”), and forget the sorcery and magic. And young adult stuff can be fun but zombies and whatnot tend to creep in, at which point I creep out. Hard sci fi is one answer. This type of fun story is another and “Junkyard” has the twist of the protagonist, McCall, being autistic. She is a space-faring skip tracer who finds herself signed up by her personal assistant android to investigate a robbery of maple syrup. She befriends a junkyard dog and together she, the android, and the dog take care of business. Loved it! A one-sitting read, and an afternoon well spent.
