Bridget Blake is an Australian living in the United Kingdom who devours smutty stories in her spare time. If she can’t find what she wants to read, she writes it herself. The filthier, the better. Her love of romance began reading fan fiction on her family’s dial-up computer under the cloak of midnight, and her love for paranormal romance grew from there.  When she isn’t writing something dirty, she enjoys gaming with her husband and cuddling their geriatric cat. She’s lived in coastal surfing villages, outback Australian mining towns, central London, and currently the British countryside. Her experiences shape her stories and she believes reading should be a delightful escape with happy endings.  If you spot any mistakes or would like to chat, please don’t hesitate to get in contact. The Omega Gambit - Bridget Blake

    1

Y ou’ve got to be fucking kidding me, Marco grunts as his foot plunges into a muddy puddle. It’s been raining on and off for days, and sidewalks in this part of town have crumbled into disrepair. He flips up the collar of his trench coat to keep his suit dry, lamenting the state of his new Italian leather shoes as they squelch sadly with each step. He’s not dressed for this kind of work.

Hell, this is not even part of his employment contract. He gave up field work years ago for the comfort of a desk. Hasn’t he proved his worth as an analyst? He has the top performance rating on his team, making him the best analyst in the Department of Designation Control.

Yet, here he was, navigating dank, downtown buildings in search of a safe house he isn’t even certain is real. It’s a depressing place to be during the day, and with the sun setting quickly, harkened by the heavy rain clouds, he doesn’t want to linger after dark.

As an Alpha, no one would mess with him. He’s physically stronger than most of the population, so the seedier residents of this slum would keep a wide berth. As an agent for the DoDC, he had combat training, and he carried a gun, but he preferred to dominate with his intellectual superiority. Which he’s unable to do, away from his desk and traipsing around in the rain.

    Damn grunt work.

Earlier that day, Marco noticed some chatter online about an Omega safe house in this neighbourhood. He’d promptly reported his findings. However, instead of sending the usual bounty hunters, his orders were to investigate himself.

When he’d questioned the strange request, his boss had brushed him off with a weak excuse about being short-staffed and, as he is an Alpha, he’d be able to track down the Omegas easily. He could practically taste the interference of his work rival. It reeked like that Beta weasel on floor four.

He would complete his mission perfectly, of course. Even if it was beneath him, he wouldn’t come crawling back a failure. He was a decent tracker thanks to the hunting trips his father had taken him on when he was younger. Along with his Alpha genetics, his elevated senses gave him an edge that the other designations couldn’t compete with.

The Department of Designation Control exists to ensure the careful balance of designations within society. Omegas who register as unmated are assisted in finding a suitable Alpha to mate with. To maintain order, everyone must play their part. Alphas lead and protect. Betas support. Omegas nurture and care.

The resistance didn’t agree. The selfish fuckers.

Some Omegas refused to register with the DoDC, stating that adding them to a list would only result in their rights being stripped. A resistance network allowed these Omegas to access suppressants that mask their designation from others.

In recent years, the shortage of registered unmated Omegas made the Alpha population increasingly desperate. It’s no longer safe for an unmated Omega to be in public, as forced mating bites are becoming more and more frequent. A black market for trafficking Omegas has boomed, providing Alphas with the chance to claim a lifelong mate.

The resistance postulates they’re fighting for Omega rights, yet they’ve only made things worse for their designation. Omegas thrive when cherished and protected, but most hide in the shadowy corners of the city.

All day long, he stares at the statistics. The rising violence, the plummeting birth rates, and he’s filled with anger at the selfish Omegas hiding away. If they were registered with the DoDC, there would be no reason to fear Omega traffickers and aggressive Alphas.

Once in the database, Alphas can request meetings with eligible Omegas. The Department then facilitates safe match-making in a controlled environment so Omegas can safely meet potential mates. It’s all designed to keep Omegas safe and in control of their fate.He doesn’t understand why they choose to hide away in the rotten underbelly of the city instead.

Marco steps into a pile of sodden trash and grumbles as he shakes his leg to flick off the offending garbage. He’s wasting his time out here doing grunt work. Such a simple task should be handled by a newbie… or a Beta.

Finishing up his search of the second derelict apartment building he’d triangulated as a potential Omega hideout, Macro dashes back out into the driving rain. It’s picked up in the hours he’s been on the hunt, and it’s playing havoc with his usual keen sense of smell. Agitated, he strides down the flooding alleyway to the last building.

He’s barely entered the run-down, filthy lobby when a scent catches his attention. It’s sweet, with a hint of elderberries, and overpowered by a seductive musk. His foot falters
