The Amir (The Two Daggers - A 13th century drama Book 3) Kindle Edition
In the frantic days after the Mamluk army brutally sacked their city, Sidika and Emre find themselves in Egypt at the house of an ambitious amir to Sultan al-Ashraf Khalil. Emre, reinstated to his position in the Mamluk army, plays a dangerous game, pitting the sultan’s amirs against each other in a bid to increase his influence in the royal court. Sidika, captured as a slave, can only think of Henri and escape. But when Emre comes up with a risky plan to help her flee Cairo, how far is she willing to go for her freedom?
Henri, now living in Francia among hostile relatives, dreams of finding Sidika and ransoming her, but he cannot avoid a nobleman’s duties: arranged marriage awaits him. As he attempts to settle into his new life, a group of outcasts arrives in Maron, causing an uproar. By protecting them, Henri does what he knows is right, but the consequences could be deadly.
Love, lust, revenge, and loss push Henri, Sidika, and Emre toward adulthood in the third book in The Two Daggers series, following them through social and political turbulence at the sunset of the Levantine crusades.

- Reviewed in the United States on February 16, 2024I’m so absorbed in this series—it is hard to put down! This third book starts off with new adventures and hardships for two of the protagonists (Henri and SIdika). They share a secret longing, each unbeknownst to the other, which the romantic in me swooned for! But this is not a love story, it is a drama with a capital D. Lots of trials and tribulations. I immediately downloaded the next book in hopes that my favorite characters will find the reward they richly deserve! Hate, greed, fear and xenophobia had the upper hand in this story, but will love conquer all in the end?
- Reviewed in the United States on November 12, 2023I find myself immersed in all the wonderful and tragic characters of Anderson’s third book. What will happen to them all? Another well researched and well written book with rich descriptive writing. Continue on!
- Reviewed in the United States on August 15, 2022I had been waiting for this next book for a while as the last one seemed to end too soon! This particular story really focuses in on the separate journeys of Henri and Sidika and my favorite part was bouncing between them, you were able to see the separate and difficult experiences based on the different parts of the world and cultures. One of the most magical parts of this series is how the cultural and historical backdrop takes you to a different place and time just through words. The smells, temperature, food, and clothes enhance the stories and while falling in love with the characters I'm also learning and experiencing things that I've never knew before. I can't recommend this series enough and I am anxiously awaiting the next book!
- Reviewed in the United States on January 9, 2023Book 1 was a great read. Book 2 somewhat less so. Book 3 starts out well enough, but very soon spirals down to cheap soap opera levels. Bullshit-level intrigue and indecisive weakness abounds. Better to stop reading at Book 2.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 8, 2022I love historical fiction. Ken Follett. Patrick O'Brian. Conn Iggulden. And now, Elizabeth Andersen. I have high expectations for a great story within authentic and accurate history. Andresen's trilogy of "The Scribe", "The land of God", and now her latest "The Amir" deliver on every level and place her in the league of some of the most respected historical fiction authors of all time.
The mark of a great historical fiction is to put the reader in the time and the place of the story. Anderson does that expertly. While reading "The Amir" I was in France, or Egypt. When I put the book down, I had to remember that the year is 2022, not 1292.
While many trilogies / series lose their novelty and impact as the series progresses, the opposite is true for this series. I enjoyed "The Scribe" enough to want to read "The Land of God" when it came out. After finishing that, I was restless with anticipation for "the Amir" like a pre-teen waiting for the next installment of Harry Potter. My only disappointment is the series is over.
As the parent of 2 daughters, I appreciate the strong women characters.
As an amateur history buff, the descriptions, settings, and behaviors felt authentic and really helped frame the story.
I also loved that these books are set in a location less familiar to me, yet such an important area of the world- then, and now.
If you love a good story- mystery, political intrigue, history, action, love story- this series has it all.
Thank you Elizabeth Andersen for sharing this story with us!

1.0 out of 5 stars Huge disappointment.
"The Amir" was a very disappointing book. It didn't hold up to the previous two books at all. The author seems to have completey destroyed the plot and characters that had been previously built up and is surprisingly "ending" it with "to be continued".

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing series
I've loved everything about this series of books. The sense of place, both France and the Middle East, the character growth and development and the writing itself have all been wonderful. I'm looking forward to the next installment in 2023 and am grateful for the Nasira prequel to fill the gap.

5.0 out of 5 stars fantastic read !
The fact that “ the scribe “ was Elizabeth’s first book tells everyone what a learned historian and naturally excellent storyteller that she is. Her first three books in this series have kept me riveted and I can’t wait for more . Such drama and intrigue right throughout , and the hero’s are flawed and completely real. Thank you Elizabeth for giving us these excellent stories.
