Rescuers From Illur: A Dystopian Novel (Divine Land Of Illur Book 1) Kindle Edition
When strangers come to an encampment with the promise of travel to a thriving society, a curious boy, who is an outsider among his people, has to be ready to leave behind the life he has made to go to a place he hopes exists.
Very few in the worn encampment even notice the boy they have known since birth. With feelings of not being liked or cared for, Edan spends his days exploring and only returns for meager shelter during the night. Believing he is fine on his own, the quiet boy has adapted to rely only on himself.
Strangers arrive at a camp built around a structure that was long ago a wondrous house. They come on the heels of fear, but bring knowledge and the promise of travel to a thriving society. The possibility of prosperity within a world of hard work and nothingness would mean tremendous change for those living in the camp. Edan is wary, but interested in the strangers and soon connects with one who believes she is meant to save his people. As Edan's bond grows with the captivating girl, Vita, the strangers ready themselves to return to Illur with the people of the encampment.
Even though he has every reason to go, it is a struggle for Edan to leave the only place he has known to travel somewhere he hopes exists. Trust is hard won for a boy who is used to being alone, but loyalty seems rooted in his soul. He wants to believe, for himself and all the others of his camp who wonder if they can find a better life in Illur.
When the strangers come, will you go with them?

About the author

Author of the Divine Land Of Illur, Cajah Reed, fell into writing after the opening line of her first book would not stop cycling through her mind. Continuing to follow the stories in the YA dystopian series felt like an adventure of its own and a way of stepping out of the unpredictability of real life. Her inspiration for the series stems from music, geography, and the humanity of everyone, especially an individual’s need to belong. As an avid reader of all things science fiction and fantasy, Cajah is especially drawn to books with dark oppressive dystopian societies, supernatural characters, or epic worlds unlike our own. It was no surprise that Cajah’s debut series came from one of her favorite genres.

- Reviewed in the United States on October 14, 2024Dystopian young adult is not a genre I usually read, but this book caught my, so I thought I'd give it a try. The story is futuristic, with a main character living in a time where the past is mostly forgotten. He can see the remnants of the past, but does not know the words for the objects he sees. Cars are 'metal boxes.' Houses are 'structures.' All small animals and insects are just small animals. He lives in a camp with some other people, but he is an orphan.
Then some new people come to their camp and invite them to their home, Illur. Our young boy main character now has a new friend, a girl slightly older than him. He shows her some things and she explains that the metal boxes are cars and once were used for transportation, but she does not know how. He shows her a small animal and she tells him it is a butterfly, but she only read about them in books and did not think they were real. And he does not know what a book is. It's an interesting idea of how a future world would exist a few generations after some kind of catastrophe.
The new people invite most of the camp to live with them in their home and this is the story of their journey to Illur. I think it's a great book and leaves you wanting to read the next.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 10, 2023I was drawn to the characters especially Edan. The story was absorbing and it was difficult to put down for reading breaks. Excited to read the next book and learn more of Edan’s fate. I connected with the main character and hope he finds peace/love.
