MissBEHAVED (Walker's Grove Book 1) Kindle Edition
Perfect house? Check. Thriving business? Check. Smoking hot but bossy boyfriend who likes to smack my ass? No thanks.
Set a goal, work the plan, exceed the goal. Rinse and repeat until you’re living the dream.
That’s exactly what I’m doing when Dixon Williams barges into my life.
I don’t care that he looks - and acts - like he just walked out of one of my sexiest nighttime fantasies. Letting some overbearing oaf tell me how to live my life - and who has no hesitation about reinforcing the pleasure he brings with the stinging bite of pain - is definitely not part of the plan.
But Dixon isn’t used to being told no, and if anyone could convince me to change the plan, it’s him.

About the author

Tabitha Marks lives in the Northeast with her husband and two children. She prefers books to television, coffee to tea, jeans to dresses, and beer to wine. Her depressingly limited spare time is usually spent either reading or writing. Except when she’s dragging her husband across state lines to attend rock concerts.

- Reviewed in the United States on July 31, 2021The first book in the new series, Walker's Grove, will mainly focus on two people, Dixon Williams, 30, and a longtime resident of the area—and Melody 'Mellie' Sullivan, 26, a transplant and business owner to the area. Several of Mellie's friends are also lifetime residents, and together, they have a book club where they enjoy reading naughty books. The story will involve the meeting, relationship, and interactions between Dixon and Mellie.
Dixon and Mellie will meet at a 'speed-dating' social that neither one wants to attend. Mellie is there as the wing woman for her friend, and Dixon is there to appease his meddling Grandma. But, they meet before the event, have a heart-to-heart chat that brings up future goals for a mate. That talk includes discussing a dominant/submission with a domestic discipline lifestyle.
Dixon: "In some ways I want a traditional relationship. I think a couple should love each other and respect each other, but ultimately someone's got to be in charge, and I want that person to be me."
Mellie: "What does that mean? How would you be in charge?"
Dixon: "It means there would be rules and expectations, and if my partner failed to meet those, there would be consequences. I'm not talking about abuse. Everything would be consensual."
Dixon and Mellie each leave the event, but their mind continues back to the conversation with one another. Both have goals they have been working to obtain—Mellie's lingerie shop and Dixon taking over the family hardware store. Mellie doesn't plan to give up her shop, even after marriage or children—she can either have it all or do without the latter two. Dixon is perfectly fine with a working wife because she would be someone who understands business. They could intelligently converse about their workday and still have a future. Now, the courtship begins, and it isn't without issues.
Grace: "Why are you so resistant to meeting someone? Even if you're not on the hunt for true love, like me, why close yourself off to any possibilities? What if you're missing out on something great?"
"As much as I wasn't looking for a relationship, a part of me felt like this was a dream come true. A strong, dominant man who wasn't afraid of a smart independent woman? It sounded like a match made in heaven."
Mellie: "I like that you're not afraid to tell me what you're feeling, even if it makes me blush. I appreciate honesty. I don't have the time or energy to play games."
Dixon: "I think we both should promise each other complete honesty during our relationship, whatever it turns out to be and for however long it lasts. For me, being in control isn't about bossing you around, it's about making sure you're safe and happy and healthy. It's about having a clear line of authority when decisions need to be made and we don't see eye to eye."
Rule One: To be safe
Rule Two: Be respectful
Rule Three: No lying and lies of omission also count.
The story's plot will have Mellie and Dixon meeting at a local speed dating that they do not actually attend but become acquainted with a friendly chat. It leads to Dixon finding her business and asking her out to dinner—and I admire that while Mellie has her goals, she doesn't close herself off immediately. Before long, Dixon and Mellie see each other often—but she doesn't grasp that as a boyfriend/girlfriend relationship until he lays it out. She has doubts about how he will react when he sees her home, learns of her family, and questions if that will send him packing. While Dixon is a bit overwhelmed, he isn't turned off but her family's wealth. He will even attend a dinner party at her home and meet her parents and their friends, which no one treats him like he is beneath them. But, Dixon keeps Mellie a secret from his family—eventually sharing with his Grandfather but not his Grandmother. When they meet, it is a terrible experience of abusive behavior and humiliation. After so long, Mellie, hurt, confused, and finally angry, gets up to leave, and she and Dixon have words. So, where will that leave them? Is his family going to come between their relationship?
Overall, I liked the story with the characters and interactions. The chemistry between Mellie and Dixon sizzles and compliment each other. I think they each have life goals that mesh well and can be accepting of the other. I felt Dixon dishonored Mellie with his grandparents. For both him and his Grandfather to just sit at the table as his Grandmother berated and humiliated her repeated was upsetting. In truth, Dixon broke rules number two and three—he wasn't respectful to her, and his keeping her a secret to his Grandmother was a lie of omission. The rules are in place, and don't get a pass by the dominant partner—no excuses. If anything, they should be held at a higher level. How dare he call her out when he was mainly the guilty partner! She wasn't wrong calling him a liar—he did lie by omission, and now their relationship has been broken. Will they overcome this event? What will happen between Dixon and his grandparents? And Mellie?
Dixon: "I love you, Melody Sullivan. All your sweetness and sassiness, and even your bad temper."
Mellie: "I love you, too, Dixon Williams. All your bossiness and sexiness and even your need to smack my behind.
Dixon: "Maybe someday you can be Melody Williams."
Mellie: "Maybe someday."
- Reviewed in the United States on June 19, 2022The first book in the series featuring Dixon and Melly.
I love stories about small towns, because you get a lot of interactions and the characters are usually quirky.
I liked how open and honest Dixon was from the start of the relationship and how he supported Mellie and treated her like an equal and playing to both their strenghts.
I loved that Mellie wanted to make her own way and not rely on her family and how she was able to talk and help Dixon with his business and how to handle his family.
An enjoyable read.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 16, 2021The over analyzing and discussion throughout this book was annoying. I only got half way through before I have it up.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 27, 2021An entertaining page turner from start to finish. It's well written and has a fantastic storyline. Melody and Dixon have a different kind of relationship but it's one that works well. There's plenty of action, some sass, and plenty of steam. Excellent book.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 6, 2021First time I read a book by this author. I thought it was a well written book and liked the characters and how they were portrayed, both Dixon and Melody (Mellie). Mellie owned her own lingerie shop and Dixon managed his grandfather’s hardware store. Story takes place in Walker’s Grove which is a small town. I look for stories that are written about small towns as you have more interaction with other characters and their idiosyncrasies. They met up at a speed dating event which neither wanted to attend. Dixon was talked into it by his grandmother and Mellie’s friend Grace (who was looking for a good man) and from there sparks flew, there are some heated moments as Dixon was more of a Dom, but was really interested in Mellie as she was an independent business woman. There was no HEA.
