Prologue -- Amelia

Three months ago…

I wish I didn’t have to go home tomorrow.

Me too.

I squeezed my arm around Margo’s waist, my fingers sinking into her soft flesh. The moonlight coming through the open balcony door lit up her face, almost making her look like an angel.

I’d come to this resort in the Mexican riviera to celebrate my recent graduation from grad school. With my newly minted master’s degree in elementary education, I’d already lined up a job as a fourth-grade teacher starting in the Fall. I figured I’d take a little solo trip to unwind from the pressures of school, then move up to Seattle and find a summer
