Riding the Storm (The Chattanooga Supernaturals Book 3) Kindle Edition

4.4 4.4 out of 5 stars 86 ratings

When the vampires begin to realize bagged blood isn’t giving them what they need, Kendra goes in search of a human companion. She’s been a Domme for the past thousand years, and has never had trouble finding human men who want to submit to her.

Eric is a human adrenaline junkie who spends his time hang-gliding and jumping out of perfectly good airplanes when he isn’t creating video games. Best of all, he smells of sunshine and blue skies — addictive to a vampire who’s seen neither for nearly three thousand years.

Unfortunately, he’s a Dom. But he’s so full of life, and he gives her adventures when she’d forgotten how to live with joy.

As the two navigate their compatibility in bed, Eric must figure out whether he can handle living in Kendra’s world, and the vampires have to figure out whether they can deal with their third in command submitting to a human they feel is so far beneath them on the evolutionary ladder.

While Kendra and Eric work through their personal challenges, they must also fight a group of powerful supernaturals planning to enslave Eric in an effort to exploit his skills and further their own agenda.

Can Kendra and Eric battle all of this to find happiness?

Paranormal romance with claws...

Click "Follow" to be notified of new releases!

Candace Blevins has published more than fifty books. She lives with her husband of twenty-four years and their youngest daughter. Their oldest daughter has flown the nest, but frequently comes home for visits. The family’s beloved, goofy, retired racing greyhounds are usually at her side as she writes, quietly keeping her company. Or sometimes not so quietly.

Candace writes urban fantasy, paranormal romance, contemporary BDSM romance, two kick-ass motorcycle club series, and she occasionally delves into dark matter.

Her urban fantasy series, Only Human, gives us a world where weredragons, werewolves, werelions, three different species of vampires, and a variety of other mythological beings exist.

Candace’s seven paranormal romance series are all sister series to the Only Human series, and give some secondary characters their happily ever after.

Her two darker series are also sisters to the urban fantasy books. A Dark(ish) Faerie Tale provides a close-up and personal look at Queen Mab, and the Dark Underbelly series is, as you’d expect, dark and (if you’re a little twisted) oh-so-yummy.

Her contemporary Safeword series gives us characters who happen to have some extreme kinks. Relationships can be difficult enough without throwing power exchange into the mix, and her books show characters who care enough about each other to fight to make the relationship work. Each couple in the Safeword series gives the reader a different take on the lifestyle.

The vampire culture Candace has created in her wildly imaginative mind is harsh as well as filled with protocols and hierarchy. Some of the scenes contained in this book are brutal and described in vivid detail. Yet, they are mesmerizing to read.

Kendra and Eric's relationship is fraught with problems from the get go. He's sunshine and light. She is ice and darkness. Despite their major differences, once he learns what she really is, he continues to be drawn to her as she is to him. Add to that the fight to oust the Master Vampire of North Carolina, the drama is tense and dangerous.

I only occasionally read paranormal romance but I am completely enthralled by this series, the characters and their stories. Ms Blevins is an extremely talented wordsmith who grabs her reader's attention with well written, thoroughly entertaining books.

I like Kendra more than I expected to like her. Her and Erik work really hard to make their relationship work. The torture Erik goes through is horrible especially for dominant man. Kendra is one ruthless killer when you mess with someone she loves.

So, never let it be said that Candace Blevins doesn’t keep you on your toes, never mind the edge of your seat. This most excellent series of interrelated paranormal books just keeps upping the ante, and I am totally hooked, especially after Riding the Storm. Be warned: this particular literary outing is not for the faint of heart because these vamps have nary a sparkle amongst them. Though I suppose blood and sinew does have a special glow by the light of the moon, but I digress…

As ever, Ms. Blevins takes the reader on an intense relationship journey that is not all hearts and flowers, but hard work and learning and compromise. Now take that scenario, replete with deep and compelling characters, and place it smack in the middle of a supernatural world of diverse beings and scintillating politics that put us mere humans to shame, and you have a story that is un-put-downable. This was one of those, “I’m not going to sleep until this is done” kind of books.

Its raw; very raw. Its gritty; very gritty. It pushed my limits the way most of Ms. Blevins books do, but it also pushes a reader to step out of their own comfort level and see beyond what they think they know. There is a much stronger BDSM element to this book, reminiscent of the Safeword series, but the core of the story is the supernatural world and the melding of one human into its folds. The relationship of two Dominants from opposite worlds and their one-step-forward, two-steps-back attempts to make their lives blend in a way that works for them, is further complicated by otherworldly politics and arrogant supernatural attitudes about the place of humans amongst them.

Strong female H-heroines are a hallmark of Ms. Blevins books, and Kendra is one lady you don’t want as an enemy. In something of a role twist, Kendra must be the protector and Eric the protected, though Eric displays his own brand of strength in one of the most graphic and intense scenes I’ve read…maybe more accurately, endured. It was my first “step-back-and-think” test in the book, though definitely not the last. Happily, I passed the test(s).

I am so delighted with the newness in the “feel” of this book, and the series in general. The supes aren’t new, the lore does not take any drastically original directions, but the world is magic and visceral and tangible and the characters are full of possibilities. I have not been taken on this kind of escape in a long time.

Buckle up, oh…and don’t eat before the ride!

This series is so exciting I can never put a book down until I read it in its entirety. There is so much going on that it keeps you enthralled. Candace is a phenomenal write of the supernatural and I really enjoy all the intertwining worlds she’s created!

Oh I absolutely loved this book. Kendra is kick ass and I absolutely love her. This book shows so many emotions. All of them so intense. Kendra and Eric's story is full of EVERYTHING. I don't think Candace left out anything. We find out more about the politics of the Vampire/Supernatural realm, the council. Oh I just loved that little meeting. Did I say I loved Kendra. Yeah, she is kick ass.

I don't do spoilers so the author blurb is spot on. If you have read any of this author's books then you will love it as well.

This is one you will want to read more than once. Fist bump

What a combination, female Vampire (who's a Domme) & a male human (who's a Dom). He's an adrenaline junkie, loves anything outside & a little dangerous, who writes video games. She's the third for the Master Vampire, so she's strong, & there's something about him that draws Kendra in. Eric wants to see if he can break her icy demeanor. And so it begins.

She's too strong to submit, right? What would the rest of the group say? After spending the night together Kendra knows that she has to tell Eric what she is. No secrets.

And so it begins. This life could be very dangerous for Eric. Kendra doesn't want him for a human companion, she wants a relationship. Eric freaks out after the Bonding ritual & says he needs space.

That's the beginning. Personally, I think you should read the previous books in the Series. This way you know the main players. I'm loving this Series.

    Enjoy!!

I enjoyed this book....not as much as the other books by this amazing author, but it was very good. A great blend of suspense, action, paranormal adventure and sexual chemistry made this an enjoyable read. Vampire Kendra finds herself fascinated by human Eric, who is equally attracted to her but this couple has a lot to overcome to make a relationship work. Besides the whole vampire/human issue, Kendra and Eric both are dominates which causes many sexual compromises having to be made....not to mention the beginnings of a supernatural war. Well written and full of page turning moments...I do recommend this book to kinky paranormal lovers!
