PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
In the final installment of the Sookie Stackhouse series on which HBO's True Blood is based Harris's heroine once again finds herself torn between potential suitors and threatened by a host of supernatural beings. Despite her desire to live a somewhat normal life, the telepathic waitress becomes further tangled in the violence and rivalries of the supernatural realm. After using the magical cluviel dor to bring her friend Sam back to life, Sookie's vampire lover Eric becomes jealous and starts ignoring her. While Sam is coping with the trauma of coming back from the dead, Sookie has bigger problems when her former co-worker Arlene is found dead. Since Arlene had previously conspired to have Sookie killed, Sookie becomes the prime suspect and needs her friends to come to her defense. Harris's wry humor and the novel's strong sense of place in working-class Louisiana shines throughout at one point, "the devil was eating beignets". Amid the fast-paced, action-filled novel, Harris manages to tie up loose ends for the series' large cast of characters and longtime readers will appreciate Sookie finding closure.
Customer Reviews
See AllThe anticipation!
All the Sookie Stackhouse books have been absolutely amazing so far. I'm very excited to read the final book! Charlaine Harris is a phenomenal writer - it's rare that I find a series that I actually feel all the emotions of the characters. Well done, Charlaine!
Also, how can this book possibly have 13 one star reviews when it isn't even out yet? Please, people, cut it out.
I don't think so.
Read the spoilers.
I love reading series as you get invested in the characters and after stumbling upon spoilers I am sad to say, I will not be buying this book.
Really this is it?
I have read all the books several times actually and I was looking forward to reading this one. Especially seeing how in the last book Sookie and Eric were still married and all, I was expecting this book to maybe revolve around them staying together or doing something. All the other books had that "spark" if you will, that you couldn't wait to read the next page. There was always magic, blood, sex, witches, fairies, werewolves, new vampires, werepanthers, and lots of action. In this book....nothing absolutely nothing, other than Sam getting hurt... OMG... I have to say this book was the biggest let down. When I got to the end and read the last page, I pretty much said," I can't believe I paid for this."
