Omg. This book has everything. Romance, friendship, steamy scenes, suspense, lies, secrets, murder, mayhem, fights, and a cute little girl adored by all.

I instantly become enraptured with this book. Kate was a sweet girl who has lost everyone who loved her once her father suddenly and unexpectedly passed away, or did she?

She was convinced to move to California to attend Berkeley, where her own father had gone, by what she believed was an old family friend. Leeta was the wife of James, her father’s best friend who also was the person that helped start the company Kate was soon to run. She had only met this woman once before but was only 4 at the time and has no memory of the visit she and her parents made to visit James, Leeta and their two young sons Tanner and Gavin. It was also the night Gavin’s father died in a tragic car accident.

Gavin never forgot the night he met a green-eyed little girl and her mother that showed him and his brother the kindness and love a mother should. It was the night things got worse for them as well. Now, all these years later he hasn’t forgotten her or how she herself treated him. He knows in his heart that she’s meant to be his but will she feel the same?

Kate is confused as to who Leeta is, the kind lonely woman she portrays or the evil mother Gavin tells her about. Kate, being sheltered as a child has no real way of knowing who or what to believe but as her attraction to Gavin becomes stronger, Leeta’s true colors start to shine through. Leeta not liking being told no to, goes out of her way to make Kate’s life miserable and even puts her into dangerous paths. Add in a psycho ex-girlfriend and a sweet and beautiful little girl and you are constantly kept at the edge of your seat wondering what’ll happen next.

Beneath the Lies" got me intrigued from the beginning. I was turning the pages to see what is going to happen next. I loved Kate from the start and easily connected with her character. Gavin is a hot, bad ass alpha that I love to have in the books I read :) Their relationship goes through lot's of up's and down's, mostly due to the obstacles they have to overcome. I really enjoyed the writing style and the pace of the book. to say that I can't wait for the next book is an 'understatement! great job!

This book description intrigued me. I love books with a dark side; an element of danger, and it looked like this book would deliver that. And it did contain some suspense and danger, but I found the tension wavered and it almost lost me a few times.

Gavin and Kate have a shared past because of their parents, but haven't seen each other in years. When Kate's father dies, Gavin's mother invites Kate to live with her. But what are her motives? Gavin appears to save the day, warning Kate of impending danger from his own mother. But Gavin has his own secrets, which makes it difficult for Kate to trust him completely.

The author has created a plot full of twists and surprises, as well as well-rounded, interesting characters we come to care about. Her supporting characters, Gavin's mother, his friends, and Kate's friends, all help to enrich the plot and have their own interesting subplots that I enjoyed reading.

As I mentioned above, I did find the plot slow at some points. I would have liked a more constant tension that would keep me worrying and reading on. A few times it almost felt as if the story could end and I would have been satisfied, but then several pages later a new twist would be introduced. Also, I felt that some details were revealed too early, and while more surprises came later, as a reader, I didn't feel as if there was anything left undiscovered. I would have liked a little more mystery. And as dark as some of the characters were, I wasn't sure if Kate displayed the level of trauma or concern I would expect.

Overall, I did find this an enjoyable read, and I wouldn't mind learning more about some of the secondary characters in future books. I was just a little disappointed in the pacing of the plot, but it did have some great surprises, and I enjoyed the characters. I hope the next book can deliver the darkness promised in the description!

This was just an ok read for me. I had high expectations after Unlikely Love (I've re read it countless times) , this was just ok. I like the author and will read the next in the series featuring Belle. The most interesting character to me was Damian who was only in a couple of scenes in the book, would like to read about him.

Wow! I don't think I have ever read a book with so much deception!

The book starts off with a flashback scene, which not only introduces you to the main characters (at a younger age), but sets up the entire story. Right from the beginning you feel the connection Gavin has with Kate.

And then the story really begins.

Several years have passed and Kate finds herself trying to wade through life. Her parents have passed away, funds are limited, and she makes the decision to move in with an old family friend, Leeta. On the surface, Leeta seems like a sweet person who has nothing but good intentions for Kate.

But nothing is ever what it seems.

When Gavin and Kate finally reconnect, sparks fly, and secrets that were never meant to surface, come to light. Everything Kate thought she knew about her life is suddenly a lie. Add that to her inexplicable attraction to Gavin, and you have one heck of a story.

This story has it all, from twists and turns, lies and deception. It has enough drama and just the right amount of sexiness to keep you turning the page.

Having recently been recommended by a friend, this is the third book I have read by this author and I haven't been disappointed by any of them.
I absolutely love her writing style, the characters have great depth and are easy to identify with. The story flows easily and to me this is so important - there's nothing worse than a book that takes too long to get into.

Beneath The Lies has a great storyline with a bit of everything - love, romance, drama and suspense - it's definitely up there as one of my favourite reads so far this year. I can't wait to read more!

From the moment I started this book it captivated me, the story of how fate has plans for Kate and Gavin and with a set of chain reactions they find themselves together again after meeting for the first time when kate was only four.
Gavin didn't experience the same family love that Kate did, he never had the love and caring from his mother Leeta that normally comes with a mother but Gavin is a good man and would do anything to protect Kate. Her held on to the memory of her beautiful green eyes from the first time he met her so many years ago.
Kate finds a family and love with Gavin that she lost when her adoptive parents passed away, and when Damien (her biological father) makes his entrance in her life Gavin is worries this could change everything.
I loved this book and have to say that I LOVED Damien! I love his protective side but also his love for the daughter he never knew he had..... Until
Now.... And will do anything to protect her.
I can't wait until book 2 is released. I wish I could give it more than 5 stars!!

4.0 out of 5 stars A great read full of plenty of twists and turns!

Beneath the lies is the Story of Gavin and Kate. It’s a contemporary romance/new adult with a lot of twists and turns! Kate is a Student dealing with the loss of her parents, she starts college life by staying with a family friend who’s son Gavin, seems to know more about Kate than she realises. The two begin a whirlwind romance, but as far as instalove goes it’s at a believable pace for flow of the story. Kate’s life however is about to get whole lot more complicated with the arrival of mysterious letters and newspaper articles as well as some out of the blue emails which are about to reveal a much darker secret about her past!
As far as the story goes, i found it a little slow to get going, there was a lot going on with the sub characters and the student party life which could have been pared down a little as it did become a distraction from everything that was going on between Gavin and Kate, and there is a lot going on with them. Gavin at the start is portrayed more as an Alpha which i didnt feel really matched his character as the story progressed, the way he spoke to Kate at “those” moments seemed almost out of nowhere and kind of made me dislike him a little if i’m honest. Kate’s Character is instantly likeable though and whilst her past has left her vulnerable she still has a strength to her which she is going to need for the next instalment! I love the fact that the story was wrapped up as far as this book goes but we were left with a cliffhanger which leaves me intrigued to know more about some of the characters who appear later in the story. I have given this 4 stars mainly due to the fact that i felt Gavin could have been a little less alpha and i felt that the more steamy scenes were a little hastily written. A great read though and a real page turner towards the end!

3.0 out of 5 stars An enjoyable story.

This was a story filled with deceit.

Kate and Gavin meet by chance, but when you dig deeper, it becomes clear that their meeting was always meant to be. As the story unfolds it also becomes clear that they are wrapped up in a whirlwind of untruths that have quite harrowing consequences on their daily lives.

The plot was fairly solid. However, I sometimes felt as though scenes were being rushed along to get to the end, that relationships were not given the chance to develop properly. I wanted to feel more invested in the characters than I did. For example, I didn’t feel the moment that the protagonists fell in love… it all seemed rather routine.

Also, for me, the way that Kate responded during the sex scenes seemed out of character with her sheltered life and personality.

That said, it was an enjoyable read with twists and turns that meant I wanted to keep reading to find out what was beneath the lies.

I've read more suspenseful stories than this & some of it was a bit predictable. The Gavin/Carly thing to me was a bit overdone & concentrated on more than Kates issues. I did like the appearance of her biological dad near the end.

Not a bad read just some have done it better.
