Ivy Granger Psychic Detective Box Set Kindle Edition

4.4 4.4 out of 5 stars 379 ratings

Enter an award-winning urban fantasy world where monsters roam the streets and things aren't always what they seem.

Ivy Granger Psychic Detective box set includes Books 1-3 and Bonus Prequel short story.

FROSTBITE (Bonus Prequel: Ivy Granger #0.5)

Everyone knows that there's no such thing as ghosts, but when a client claims that her house is being haunted, Ivy tries to keep her mind open and her weapons handy. If her psychic gifts and recent cases have taught her anything, it's that you're better off arming yourself for the unexpected.

Anything is possible in Harborsmouth.

SHADOW SIGHT (Ivy Granger #1)

Ivy Granger's second sight is finally giving her life purpose. Ivy and her best friend Jinx may not be raking in the dough, but their psychic detective agency pays the bills--most of the time. Their only worry is the boredom of a slow day and the occasional crazy client--until a demon walks through their door.

Demons are never a good sign.

GHOST LIGHT (Ivy Granger #2)

Ivy Granger is back, gathering clues in the darkest shadows of downtown Harborsmouth. With the lives of multiple clients on the line, she's in a race against time. Ivy finally has a lead to the whereabouts of the one person who can help her control her wisp abilities, but will she put the needs of her clients above her own?

If Ivy doesn't find a solution soon, she could wind up a ghost herself.

BURNING BRIGHT (Ivy Granger #3)

Things are not going well at the offices of Private Eye. Jinx is having demon problems, the city is overrun with pyromaniacal imps, and Ivy's wisp powers are burning out of control, attracting the attention of both the Seelie and Unseelie courts. It's the worst possible time for the Green Lady to call in a favor, but Ivy's bound by her deal with the glaistig. Too bad there's no wiggle room in faerie bargains.

Ivy must rid the city of imps, keep Jinx from murdering her one solid link to Hell, and fulfill her bargain with the Green Lady--with sidhe assassins hot on her tail.

Just another day's work for Ivy Granger, psychic detective.

-The Reading Diaries

"Ivy Granger's world is to say the least, dark. ...This inherent darkness in the books is offset by the author's ready wit, likeable characters and natural-sounding dialogue. For me, dark is most effective when there is some light to offset it and E.J. Stevens hits the balance nicely."

What a treat. It's been over a month since I finished a book that I could not put down. There have been other good books in the interim, but not wildly great! This series is wildly great! I love monster hunters and the supernatural. I love detective stories. This series perfects both. This set of three books plus a prequel was very well written, the characters interacted well and believably, and the plot was original and beautifully developed. The superenatural offers soooo many possibilities for stories, and when done well is superb. Adventure, unusual characters, and great protagonists. I rarely give five stars--a book has to be great AND convey a moral of sorts; this series foots the bill. I am onto Book 4. Thank you. Keep writing!

Bk 1- I enjoyed this story line in Shadow Sight, although, it lacked some background worldbuilding elements which would have enriched the reading experience. As it is, I stopped mid-paragraph a few times to try and figure things out- which paused the action, but didn't detract from my enjoyment of the plot. Overall, the world was wonderfully constructed and the rules/supernaturals explained as we read along. There were interesting characters and hints/revelations which could make the next books in the series a lot of fun.
Book 2 * Ghost Light: Another decent installment in the Ivy Granger series. Unfortunately, there are a handful of downsides. While the plot progressed (somewhat slowly), and the romance finally found a loophole (let's hear it for love), there were continuity problems and Ivy's character seemed to dumb-down, rather than develop. Why isn't she asking for help from the people around her-- like Ceff? She gets in her mind only one person has an answer (e.g. Sir Torn or her dad) and singlemindedly -- and blindly-- does everything in her power to get to the person she believes holds the answers, but she never asks advice of the experienced people around her. Ivy is alternately a fighter and a dork and it was painful at times to see her take the long route, rather than ask for directions. My 3.5 rating is rounded up because I enjoyed the plot involving the missing Fae.
Book 3- Burning Bright: I purchased Burning Bright as part of an Ivy Granger box set. A few typos, and a lot of redundant explanations, but I enjoyed the plot twists and characters--Stevens creates some of the best villains.

    Review for Frostbite

Frostbite is a short paranormal ghost story that is a little spooky and a bit tragic. The story is complete (no cliffhanger), but it leaves the reader wanting more.

    Review for Shadow Sight:

Shadow Sight is an entertaining fantasy adventure based around a girl with a psychic gift who runs a detective agency. This is the first book in the series, and it is a fun ride with all sorts of interesting monsters along the way.

Contains some gory stuff and some sexual stuff (particularly with some of the monsters such as the Pooka and their choice of hats), but nothing too graphic. I’d consider this book suitable for teens and adults.

A strong series, Author Stevens does a great job creating the Ivy and the other characters populating this urban fantasy world. Each novel contains its own storyline while being part of an overall, ever-expanding plot. Characters develop and change, and there's a sense of continuity that's hard to find in some series.

An Ivy Granger book is kind of like the best kind of popcorn - one piece isn't enough... you really need a handful!

I liked this boxed set. There was a short prequel story, and it also included the first three books of this apparently ongoing series. All together, this read was only 760 pages, so the individual books aren't very lengthy. The main character has a psychic ability that discourages her from any direct touch of her skin to objects or people, because she'll then fall into visions of the most traumatic moments of that object or that person's memories.

She lives in a town called Harborsmouth. Since it sits on a crosswalk of Ley lines, it draws many supernaturals. I counted more than 36 species that I was familiar with (yes, I read too much fantasy and mythology). I also counted more than 17 that I either wasn't aware of, or that the Author created. That's a lot of critters to pack into 760 pages. But as a Fantasy Fan, I was game for it.

The prequel started off a bit on the confusing side. It was meant to introduce Ivy, her business, and her best friend/roommate Jinx. Ivy has turned her ability into a detective business that she partners with her mundane friend. The three main books tell of her supernatural contacts, her cases, and they also develop a romantic interest for Ivy. As the books progress, they introduce her developing powers. What they DON'T include is much past history of this interesting World. For instance, I never quite figured out what "The Burning Times" entailed. I wanted more.

I also would have appreciated more character depth on Jinx and the Kelpie King. We did get a little more history and depth on Ivy as the books went on, but her emotions could have been more detailed. The writing style was generally smooth, and the editing and proofreading was adequate.

I found myself strongly intrigued by this World and Ivy. There is a lot of potential for upcoming books, which I plan on reading. I enjoyed this set.

These books I should love. This storyline has a lot of Hooks for me. It needs more action scenes to pick up the pace. 1st attempt I gave up after 22% read. I tried again and and gave up at 34%. That's it for me. Interesting story, just too slow. I'd say read the last 1/4 of the first 2 books. That part is interesting. The first 3/4 of Book 1 and 2 are a YAWN.

5.0 out of 5 stars Packed with Mythology and mayhem
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on February 4, 2019
This is a very involved series. Having read E.J.Stevens earlier work, the Ivy Granger series is a step forward somewhat inasmuch as the incredible amount of detail that goes into each story.
Ivy Granger is a private eye who has the gift / curse of psychometry. Over the course of time, this gift increases in strength and has varied results, making for some interesting outcomes. Her partner in crime is a Rockabilly lovely called Jinx (a nickname that more than lives up to its reputation due to the scrapes that she gets into).
There are some fascinating storylines in this boxes set, incorporating all manner of creatures from imps and vampires to some more obscure phantoms from a plethora of Celtic folklore.
The author has obviously spent a hell of a lot of time in research to create these stories and the characters are both colourful and feisty and blend in seamlessly with the unfolding tales.
Although the writing style is a light urban fantasy and has a great snarky humour running throughout, there are some serious issues addressed and there are dark undercurrents which make for interesting reading.
Both Ivy and Jinx are strong female characters who revel in being themselves and are positive individuals, neither falling into the typical stereotypes of having to sell sex to get ahead in be a 'damsel in distress' etc.
Fans of Urban Fantasy will love this, as will people who enjoy mythology in general. The stories are 'clean', so no excessive sex clogging up the story and ruining it for younger readers who can quite happily read these books.
This boxed set is a bargain and well worth getting if you want to be sucked into a world of fantastic creatures and have a laugh along the way.
